Bringing school supplies to Thailand?

Dear readers,

I am traveling through Thailand for a few weeks in October. When I traveled to other countries, including Cuba and Sri Lanka, I took some school supplies with me to sometimes give to a school, sometimes also to children.

Would that also be a nice idea for Thailand or just don't do it?

Regards,

Huib

Gifts are always appreciated and it's not about whether they're useful or what it costs. The gesture that someone takes the trouble to think of such a thing is very much appreciated in my experience.
Whether it is ultimately of any use is another question because some school supplies such as pens, pencils and erasers are sponsored by the government every year at my son's place… whether there is a link with the Central Group will probably remain a secret.

A laptop will certainly be much appreciated!

Just don't. School materials cq. stuff comes in such a wide variety, maybe 100 times if not thousands times as much (made in China, Japan or South Korea)
as in the Netherlands, and also much cheaper. Also do not give to the school because then a fake invoice will be made for this and the money will disappear from the school budget. If you know school children, it is better to take them to a random store, always find gadgets or small toys or hangers for the school bag or for the school pencil case, let the children choose it for themselves and pay at the cash register. For the rest, it remains difficult to judge whether the children need it. Visit an orphanage then it will end up in the right place because yes no parents who give the children all kinds of things, this seems to me the right place to play Sinterklaas. Or else you better help the Ukrainian children in the Netherlands, on average the standard of living was already lower than Thailand and now that they have often left everything behind because of the war, it would be better to buy something for these children.

I bought ballpoint pens years ago, ; erasers, rulers, etc. donated to a local school.
I was then invited to give a speech in front of the class on how important it is to learn the English language.
I think it was second grade primary school in my experience.
Thai small pastries were brought to me as a reward that I ate together with the teacher.

    The story of the laptop.
My older laptop also once donated.
Not directly to the school, but to one of the students.
DVDs with movies were played in no time and unfortunately after a few days some keys, including the start key, were missing.

Donating can work out well, but it can also be frustrating.
The 3 children's bicycles I ever bought were completely demolished after less than 1 year.
With 1 bicycle, the handlebars were immediately bent to a different shape after purchase and the spray paint was also used.
I have noticed that some other children are careful with their things.
Apparently it depends on the upbringing and the family.

My donated real leather footballs have lasted a few years in the schoolyard.

I would then opt for a donation to an organization, Huib.
After a bit of searching, I came across a reasonably focused club called globalgiving where choice and explanation are reasonably clear.
You can reasonably assume that those people have a better view of the whole through their presence.
    There are more of course.

I currently support 2 students through the project below. The children are monitored personally. All this is perfectly checked by a Belgian on site. This project has already given many students the opportunity to obtain a good diploma.

      I highly recommend this.

Instead of bringing school supplies, supporting an organization might be better. For many years I have supported the Father Ray foundation in Pattaya with a large amount: https://www.fr-ray.org/

Another organization has been added since a few years: https://thaichilddevelopment.org/
