Dear readers,

Soon we want to go scootering near Nakhon Si Tamarat. Who knows a nice route? Through the mountains or along the coast. Northwest of NST are some mountains, is there a possibility to drive through them?

Other tips for cozy accommodations, for example, are also very welcome.

Thanks in advance!

Els

    Dear Els,

NST is a very nice area to visit by motorcycle or scooter. As a resident of southern Thailand, a few 100 km north of NST, and an avid biker, I have already visited the region there a few times. The roads are good and there is very little traffic. The landscape is very hilly, so I would advise you to rent a scooter with sufficient power, e.g. a Honda PCX 150. If you are two, rent two and, for longer rides, crawl, not two on a scooter. It is comfortable for the driver, but the pillion seat is cracked after a day's ride. (Renting a scooter like this costs between 200 and 300THB/day)

A nice route along the coast is the 401 .
A nice route more inland is the 4010 and 4015 (depending on how far you want to go)

It is probably best to do as I do if I want to explore a region by motorbike: you make sure you have a good navigation system. (A good Garmin GPS here costs +/- 6000THB and for cruisers its money is more than worth it) ….. you take the coordinates of your starting point and set it as “HOME' and …… you leave …. without a specific goal … you see a nice road: you take it …. and so you continue through the region you want to see …. do you want to go back to your starting point : HOME and “lady garmin” will take you neatly to your starting point along the shortest route.

No, always bring a rain jacket because there in the south you have a good chance of getting a rain shower over you, almost all year round.
Accommodation: choice galore along the coast…. see article with comments on this blog: “Nakhon Si Tamarat, yes why not” …. dated 07 08 2015, written by Gringo .
