Dear readers,

My girlfriend and I are going to Bangkok mid-September to stay in Thailand for three weeks. First a 11-day tour from Bangkok to the south and then another 10 days of relaxation on Koh Samui.

Now my question is; How is the weather late September/early October? A lot of rain? And if so, short refreshing showers or days of non-stop rain? I hear/read a lot of different responses.

I would like to hear from you!

Yours faithfully,

Wichard

    If I could really predict the weather I would take another job here in Thailand.
    The general trends:
    – there is more mm of precipitation in Thailand on an annual basis than in the Netherlands;
    – this precipitation falls on fewer days and in particular during the rainy season, which runs from the end of April to the end of September; It can really rain here (tropically) so that you are wet to the core in 1 minute;
    – this year the rainy season started a bit later and it was still relatively dry in May; whether that means that the rainy season is also shifting is a question that only a Thai fortune teller dares to answer;
    – in the rainy season it usually rains 1 to 2 hours a day and often in the early evening;
    – there is more rainfall on the Indian Ocean side of Thailand (the Andaman Sea) than on the Gulf of Thailand side (where Koh Samui is located);
    – although it rains, the temperature always remains pleasant (25-33 degrees) and your clothes are so dry….
    So advice: just buy an umbrella for 50 baht and give it away (if it still works) before you go back to the Netherlands. The umbrella does NOT help against tropical downpours….

      The rainy season runs from the end of June to roughly the end of October. April and May are the hottest months!!! Last year the heaviest showers even fell in Huahin in November. It certainly doesn't rain every day here in Prachuabkhirikan but well it can vary per district and I wouldn't drop the holiday for it.

    Dear Wichard,

    You would do well to bring at least some rain gear ( Jack ) and so on. October is the month in Thailand (including the south) with the most precipitation. You can find graphs of various cities and regions on various websites to see how the amount of precipitation has been in recent years.
    In any case, have a nice holiday and tour.

    Robert & Caroline.

    Most floods, washed-out roads and landslides occur in September and October. That is why this is the low season, and hotel rates are at their lowest.

    If you don't like the heat, come in October or November.

    Been 2 years back at the end of August. Had wonderful days. But unfortunately 2 days that it just didn't stop raining. Think about what trips you can do in bad weather. (market, museums, spa, shopping mall)
    The weather is unpredictable. Don't believe the weather apps on your phone that predict thunderstorms and rain when nothing falls.
