Reader question: Can I transfer money to a Thai account with Paypal?
Dag,
I regularly read your newsletter. Banking matters, transactions and debit cards are also regularly discussed here.
Now I read an article on the internet a while ago in which the use of Paypal was discussed. It was claimed that you can easily transfer money in this way from a Dutch bank account to a Thai bank account without significant costs. Do you know anything about this? Especially how this works of course. Can I link Paypal to a Thai bank account at all?
I would like to know more about this and maybe you can pay attention to this.
Thanks in advance for your help
Greetings,
Freddie
This is done via email address, you must open a PayPal account yourself, link it to your email address, the recipient must also have an email address, linked to a PayPal account and then you send an order via your email from one PayPal to the other account, most of your questions will be answered on https://www.paypal.com/nl/webapps/mpp/send-money-online
It is possible, but "exchange" costs are charged and it is quite susceptible to fraud.
did some more digging for you: Someone can send a PayPal notification of payment to your email address, if you have no PayPal account you will be invited to open one, or receive the payment via your credit card.
In Thailand you can register a Paypal account connected to a debit card that carries the VISA logo and has 3 digit security code on the backside (if your card does not have this apply for a newer version) When this is a Be1st Debit Card from Bangkok Bank account you must verify the card via phone number 1333 or (+66)2645-5555. (after this process you can also use the card for online payments like booking an airticket)
From their side PayPal will verify your Thai bank account by sending two small amounts to you, eg. 0.12 and 0.08 cents, this numbers (eg.1208) is to confirm you are the holder of the card.
Never accept payments from someone you don't know, this is a much used trick by scammers to get access to your account. Regarding the PayPal website, always check in the addressbar if it's the real website (paypal.com) as scammy ones look exactly the same !
With greeting,
Lex K.
thank you for your comprehensive answer. I know Paypal quite well, I use it myself, but maybe I wasn't clear enough with my question.
Who has experience with transferring money from his NL account to his Thai bank account by using PayPal
Is this cheaper than transferring money in the normal way.
Paypal is intended to make payments for PURCHASES over the INTERNET. The system is therefore not intended for making bank transactions. If you want to pay for online purchases from the Netherlands, you must link a Dutch Visa or Mastercard or other credit card to your Paypal account. (Don't ask how to do that, because the website contains all the information about this.) When creating an account, you will be asked to enter the number of the relevant Visa or Master or other credit card to be linked. After a security check you can get started. Payment is free, except for exchange rate costs. Money received through online entrepreneurship is subject to a % fee. See also the website for this.
I myself have a Paypal account in Thailand, to which I have linked a BangkokbankDEBITcard. Payments that I make, for example, of ONLINE purchases of, for example, an app for my tablet, sometimes only 50 baht or less, therefore go through Paypal, and can then be checked on my Bkb transfer. Easy to do and fast. Again: no costs, after all, a payment. Paying for (smaller) online purchases in a different way is cumbersome and significantly more bank costs. Of course you can also pay for large online purchases, but I won't venture to the latter: online companies in Thailand do not have the reliability as, for example, in the Netherlands.
Dear Soi, you should inform yourself a bit because transfers can indeed take place. I see Lex K. doing it in English. On wiki paypal you can read it clearly in Dutch!
Paypal is intended for money transactions regarding purchases/sales via the internet. If I'm going to pay someone, I can do it via direct bank transfers, but then I don't see the point of using Paypal. Bank transfers are not 100% risk-free, Paypal is certainly not. I'm not going to recommend anything that I don't consider completely reliable. Again: Paypal is useful when it comes to small(er) amounts of online purchases.
I know what Paypal is for Soi, but that's not the point right now. I read a submission on Thaivisa from someone using PayPal that way. Perfectly legal. Sent him an email, but got no reply.
That's why I ask my question here. I don't need answers that are irrelevant.
I have been using Paypal for years and am very satisfied with it. Not only for online payments, but also to transfer money to friends of ours in the Netherlands to buy things for me that I can hardly buy here.
The system is safe, but as with many banking matters, as already mentioned by Lex, be careful with emails you don't trust. That always applies!
It is a simple and cheap way to transfer money. I have never been cheated in the more than 6 years that I have a Paypal account.
How to do it? Follow Lex's contribution.
hello it goes with paypal transfer the money to a thai bank account…. alen the problem you have to wait around 7 days for your money .. are there sundays between or longer there are costs involved that are not as high as normal transactions
Freddie, Paypal or money to family? we (my Thai wife and I) simply transfer money to family in Thailand via our own bank
foreign transfer. Must mention international iban number. Name, address and data must also be correct, but that is also the case in the Netherlands. Costs 6 euros for sender and receiver. Not that hard if you know it. But calling with VoIP discount (5 cents for 30 minutes) is not even possible if you have this in your computer. Money is over within 3 days. So do your best and maybe you can walk into your bank and they are still providing service. Good luck
I don't know PayPal, but transfer money from ING to a bank in Thailand, in this case the Bangkok bank
then transfer euros from here, it will also be asked who pays the costs, receiver sender or
share (sharing) the most favorable is to let the recipient pay for the costs, this is considerable in Thailand
cheaper than here, about 400 bath, while here in NL I paid 31 euros at the ING administration
and transfer costs, good luck
Hi people, I transfer money through my Argenta account completely free of charge and usually the next day on the account in Thailand, the only costs are the exchange rate difference of the banks in Thailand.
What you do need is the SWIFT of the bank in Thailand
gr
ronny
I don't know how you do it, Argenta says it's free. I don't know if this is really the case. Argenta uses an intermediary bank, I doubt whether it also works for free. Since this requires the intervention of 3 banks, two in Belgium and one in Thailand.
I ask my son to transfer money via BNP parisbas and can pay him back with internal whites from Thailand with Argenta. Foreign transfers from Thailand are not possible with Argenta. Someone else can do this from Belgium, but then has to go to an office to complete an assignment; This operation until the money is in the account in Thailand takes 10 days.
Ronny is right, Argenta does it for free.
But I'm not sure about the time frame. Surely within a week the money will be in the Thai account.
You do have to go to an office with a foreign Argenta transfer. The local office sends the form to the head office in Brussels and so on to Thailand!
Without any problems. At other banks you pay a commission of over thirty euros!
