Dear readers,

I am completely illiterate and after reading as much internet data as possible on this subject, including Thailandblog, the dongles ais true 4G etc etc ring in my ears even more. The fact is I cannot live with the bad WiFi in my apartment and therefore I have to going out to other addresses, pubs, restaurants, etc. to use the internet properly and that is not only boring but also annoying.

What I understand is that with a pocket WiFi I can create my own WiFi network to which I can connect my laptop, mobile phone and tablet. My question is where can I purchase these things in Pattaya? Is everything available at 1 address? Pocket WiFi plus simcard (AIS or whoever?) what is a good 'package' for me?

Always be in Pattaya several times a year between 2 and 3 months. Outside such as Holland and Spain where I stay, I do have good WiFi connections. Does anyone have experience in using and purchasing and where can I go for good advice, preferably in the English language.

Is such a pocket WiFi only standing or does that thing have to be connected to a PC just like a dongle with USB and do I also have to bring a laptop etc to the shop for connection and advice?

You will notice just from the way I ask questions that I am in dire need of good advice.

Your positive input is highly appreciated, thanks in advance.

Regards,

Piet

I am curious about a solution because I have the same problem in my rented condo in Hua Hin where when I connect my laptop via a cable I have excellent internet,

Dear Piet, if you have a smartphone you only need to buy a SIM card from a provider, I now have dtac and am satisfied with it. You can create your own personal WiFi network on your smartphone, on which you can connect 5 to 10 devices to the internet. On Samsung phones you have to turn on mobile hotspot.
The advantage of this is that you can call and use the internet on the same phone.

For purchasing you can go to any large department store where all providers have a shop.

For example, I use my mobile phone as a hotspot to 'feed' my iPad. Just paid 450 baht for 30 days of unlimited 4G internet via AIS. Speed 4 Mbps.

Do you have good 3G/4G reception in your apartment? If so, you could use a Huawei MiFi router as a hotspot along with a 4G data plan. Most mobile phones also have a hotspot option with which you can achieve the same.

Perhaps it is better to investigate the cause of the poor Wi-Fi in your apartment. Often restarting the router helps a lot.

Ps These Huawei sets are often sold at the larger dtac, True and Ais shops.

In Jomtien near the view talays I have wifi of 3 bb and no problem. Incidentally, I agree with Marcel and it is due to the cabling in the apartment complex.

Using the edge modem (for PC) is very easy, but it comes down to making the right choice... Sometimes you have better reception with Dtac, sometimes with AIS... sometimes with True move. If you buy an edge modem (USB stick modem) from Dtac, you can also work with other SIM cards in it, but this does not apply to the other two. You could also buy a D-link, but that just makes things more complicated.
It would be best to test it with a friend's smartphone to see if the reception is satisfactory.
You can also make your choice and you are set for less than 1000 Thb per month…

Dear Piet, we also have a Mifi and it works perfectly. You can buy it in the Netherlands at a telephone store. In Thailand a SIM card and perfect reception.
    Greetings, good luck

I live in the countryside 20 km from Bua Yai (Isaan) and bought a mifi from TRUE (approx. 1800 bath). SIM card with unlimited internet for 499 bath per month. 3 phones, an Ipad and a Laptop work on this. With VPN I can watch live Dutch TV.

I have had the pocket Wifi from AIS, unreliable operation and often very slow internet! Now have broadband from BB broadband, works perfectly and costs 600,00 Bath per month for unlimited use. I live in the NE of Thailand and AIS has poor coverage here, which is why almost everyone has DTAC.

    pete,

    Two good options:
    1. Use the hotspot option available on most smartphones.
    2. Buy a Mifi device that can handle both 3G and 4G (Huawei, Netgear)
After this you buy a local SIM card in the country where you are, activate it in your mobile phone and place it.
    You're ready.

I always use option 2 when I am in Thailand or Laos.
Tip: choose a MiFi device to which you can connect an external antenna.
Do not take a USB dongle, this can only be used in 1 computer or laptop

I myself use the Huawei E5786, which are now widely used

I would order Mifi routers in the Netherlands. Here you can read reviews of some good ones: https://nl.hardware.info/reviews/7125/5-mifi-routers-getest-portable-netwerk

I would arrange 4G abroad, of course.

By the way, you can also set up a hotspot in Windows 10 these days. On the right side of your system tray (near your clock) you can find an icon of your network. Either WiFi or wired. If you click on it on the left, you will get icons to set up a hotspot. Please note that WiFi quality deteriorates if your laptop/computer has to communicate not only for itself, but also for others. It is not intended for that, although it is possible.

In addition, you can set up a hotspot via your mobile, as has already been indicated a lot.

Finally, you can purchase a phone with 2 SIM cards and then insert a 2nd SIM card from the country where you are.

I chose the mifi router from TP-Link myself. Nice and small and others (like my kids) can also take it with them every now and then. Or when I'm on vacation and go shopping or I don't know what, I leave it with the kids. But those are choices 🙂
