Dear readers,

Because no pension is built up for my wife in Thailand who is 5 years younger than me (my pension has already started) I try to arrange something in a different way. I assume that I will be the first to die.

I could take out a life insurance policy where she is the beneficiary. This insurance pays out in the Netherlands while she lives in Thailand. If we close an and/or account in the Netherlands, she can dispose of the balance of that account and transfer money to Thailand.

Who has experience or knowledge about the above?

With kind regards,

Pi John

I think it is best to put this question to an expert such as Thailandblog partner: Insurance in Thailand. Mail: [email protected] URL: http://www.verzekereninthailand.nl

Unfortunately, we (www.verzekereninthailand.nl) cannot assist with this since we do not do life insurance. We only deal in "Non-Life", such as car, home, health insurance, etc.

I am very interested in the outcome of this because I am "struggling" with a similar problem

I would take out a life insurance policy in the Netherlands on a Thai wife.

This is an interesting option that I haven't thought of yet.
I would also like to be kept informed of the responses.

You can take out term life insurance in the Netherlands if you still officially live in the Netherlands. The insurance has a maximum term until the insured has reached the age of 70. The best option is OHRA.

    Dear Anthony,

Just put something right. There are several companies with the same conditions.
Smoker / non-smoker and so on. What you state that the maximum term is up to 70 years is not correct. There are companies that insure up to 85 years, including Nationale Nederlanden.
Of course the premium is corresponding, but that goes without saying. Taking out an ORV is not the problem if you are in good health.
But I want to name my Thai wife as a beneficiary and know how she will get that benefit in Thailand after my death.

I think there is a confusion of tongues and you actually want to take out life insurance for yourself in your partner's name. I wouldn't know what someone with a death risk insurance policy in the name of a partner would want to do? If this is correct, the life insurance benefit can also be used for a funeral. Bank savings might be even better from a tax perspective, but it is better to discuss this with an expert.

As soon as you die in the Netherlands, your E/O account will be blocked immediately!

An insurer can tell you whether you can take out this insurance.
If this policy can be taken out, you can ask the insurer to send the payment to an account of your wife in Thailand, I don't think it's a problem.
View the premium vs. the possible benefit, maybe saving the premium is a better option. In any case, an ORV only pays out in the event of death during the term of the policy and is therefore not a life insurance policy that does pay out at the end of the term.
It is better to look into this further, perhaps your wife should take out the policy on your life, which prevents possible inheritance taxes, because then nothing has been withdrawn from your assets and your wife is the policyholder. Whether you provide your spouse with sufficient means to pay the premium in practical terms is another matter. This also depends on whether you are married on a prenuptial agreement or in community of property. A civil-law notary, tax adviser or the insurer can answer these questions.
Good of you to think of your wife's care, Success
