Reader question: Who knows a good optician in Hua Hin?
Dear readers,
In February we will be in Hua Hin. Anyone out there know a good optician?
We want to have our glasses fitted with new lenses and have understood that the quality in Thailand is just as good as in the Netherlands/Belgium.
Yours faithfully,
Ingeborg
Ingeborg,
There are dozens, but one stands out:
Siam watches and Optical. 51/3-4 Dechanuchit rd. Huahin.
Phone: 032-511117. E-mail: [email protected]
Is located close to the night market and green bus station.
Mother speaks very good English, and have her son who is an ophthalmologist check your eyes.
You can haggle for 500 bats, but no more. They give a fair price.
Last year I had glasses put in Pro Photo HMC for 10500 bath. Double in Belgium.
Of course it depends on what you want, but the lady (not the father) can give you good information
Say hello from Michel and Annemie who are friends of Noppakao.
I'm going again soon.
I myself bought glasses from TOPCHAROEN, branded frames (RayBan) and supposedly the best glasses.
The paint comes off in various places within 1 month, and there is no guarantee of any kind, because the glasses have been back to the shop for 3 months and nothing had been done.
I always wash the so-called quality glasses under the tap first and then dry them with a clean cloth.
Despite all caution, it has now become frosted glass. so never again.
I did read an article once that it is better to buy glasses in a hospital because most ophthalmologists also play as an optician, but do not charge high costs for the pit street ladies in the store.
Ingeborg
Whether glasses in Thailand are really cheaper than in the Netherlands depends very much on the strength and options.
I myself have Varifocus glasses with reading part of +9 and viewing part of 8.25, options are Ultra-thin. anti-reflective and hard coating (to get scratches less quickly) Went to various opticians in Korat for price information to buy new lenses. There are not many spectacle lens suppliers who can supply that, so I was offered Essilor, Hoya or Rodenstock quite often, but the price was in some cases even higher than in the Netherlands and not much lower!
In the Netherlands I did not buy my glasses from one of the major chains such as specsavers, pearl, etc., but from a local optician, price per glass 1 euros, in Thailand between 310 and 275 euros!.
So I would first have a quotation made in the Netherlands and then compare it in Thailand.
Succes
Time Optic Phetkasem Rd. near Soi 74/2.
We, friends and family are very satisfied with the service and products: bifocal glasses, sports glasses and reading glasses. Modern equipment. Annual check-up and very reluctant to suggest a different pair of glasses
There are dozens of opticians in Hua Hin with a large concentration around the Hilton hotel. Quality and service are almost the same everywhere
