Dear readers,

I am chronically ill and have severe pain in my feet every day. I regularly read the forum and read that when visiting Thai people's homes and/or Buddhist temples, one must walk barefoot. Which is impossible for me in terms of pain.

Who knows a solution for this? Is a medical certificate necessary to show, for example?

For example, before going into the sea or walking around on the beach, I was thinking about water shoes (also because of poisonous animals in the sea)?

Regards,

Marcel

How difficult for you. For the beach and water you can wear rubber or plastic shoes, or special water shoes, there is plenty of choice. And when it comes to walking barefoot in Thailand, basically slippers or shoes are off. But I also see people here without shoes but in socks or stockings. Thick socks, possibly with a sole, could be a solution, as long as you can walk in them. A wheelchair is also convenient, sometimes if you have walking problems, you can keep your shoes on. I can't think of any more tips because I don't know what else is possible for you. A medical exemption to be allowed to wear shoes will not work here, you can safely forget about it.

    Marcel.

You don't have to walk barefoot at temples. Only the shoes need to be taken off. People are still allowed to wear socks.

The point here is that dirt that may be under the shoes does not soil the temple.

This does not concern the entire temple complex, but only the interior spaces.

Normally in temples they don't make a problem if they see that you can't walk in the temple without shoes. I have that, I have 2 different heights of shoes, never had a problem with them.

Addition to my previous message; Just Google shoe covers or overshoes, disposable and non-slip, cheapest solution I think.

Ah, that's very kind. For example, I see those shoe covers, people put them on over the shoes, and that is allowed, right? So with a stick I could possibly enter the temples and others with shoes on?

Thank you, yes, it is very difficult. Due to an accident and a neuropathy problem, both feet are continuously inflamed. Sometimes I can still walk, sometimes very poorly. I don't want a wheelchair. I'm not even 50 yet! Maybe too proud. Soon, most likely, surgery on both legs and feet, then hopefully improvement.

So socks are allowed in temples? Strange, as if socks are clean or they have to be new, of course.
And when I visit Thai friends, isn't it customary to take off shoes?

Can't I buy new slippers in both 'all' cases? I am really dependent on the soft footbed at the moment. E.g. UGS. Socks are too thin, even thick winter socks.

    |My neighbor and good friend is going to look for his family in Thailand and asked if I wanted to come along. And partners included.

We have been trying to travel for years, but something always comes up.

Just wearing your socks is no problem in the temples

Marcel, if walking is so painful, investigate the foldable walker that can support your weight. Then you can sit wherever you want. Then investigate which company wants to allow him into the cabin and on what conditions. A standard walker weighs 11+ kilos, a lightweight one weighs between 6 and 8 kilos. The latter can be taken as hand luggage if a different size is allowed for a disabled person.

Jan's comment is that I can put shoe covers on my shoes? That would be a perfect solution. That's no problem and it also seems very hygienic to me.
