Reader question: New passport and statement for Thai immigration
Dear readers,
Last week I applied for a new passport at my municipality. It is clear to me what to look out for when invalidating the old passport. When I asked whether there will be a standard mention in the new passport that it replaces the old one stating the numbers, they said that this is not the case.
If you apply for a passport at the NL Embassy in Bangkok, you will need a statement for Thai immigration.
My question now is: Does the municipality in the Netherlands also issue such a statement and what requirements must it meet? Official stamp or logo of municipality? Which text?
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Harry (Chiang Mai)
Harrie, I just received a new passport at the Dutch Embassy in Bangkok and it clearly states that it is a replacement for the old passport with the corresponding old number.
I can't answer your second question.
I wonder what question you did answer. Harrie has applied for a new passport in a Dutch municipality and is therefore of no use to your answer that a new passport issued by the embassy does state that it is a replacement for the old passport. It should also be mentioned that this is not sufficient for many immigration offices and that a statement from the embassy is required.
Rob, our Harry asks if there will be a mention of the old passport in the new passport and I answer that question in the affirmative and Harry will be quite satisfied with this answer.
Municipalities in the Netherlands do not issue this statement. Because it is a consular declaration for the Thai authorities.
You can ask for such a statement at the Embassy on presentation of your old and new passport. Passports requested from Embassies and Consul-Generals will automatically receive a statement in the new passport that the new passport is a replacement for the old passport. In three languages. That should be enough for any Immigration anywhere. But yes, Thai Immigration are in love with paper. I think they also have a waste paper trade and that is certainly worthwhile.......
It is also stated in passports in the Netherlands that the new passport replaces the old one with nr…….
Hello Harrie, if you have just obtained a passport in NL, you do not need a statement from the embassy. This is because when a pp is collected from the embassy, your pp says BANGKOK AS DELIVERY and in NL just a Dutch place name.
It must be the same again, namely that it is not the same everywhere.
In Maptaphut the statement is required, otherwise no transfer of the Visa in the new passport.
This was in June 2016.
In 2016, Bangkok was not written in the new passport, but:
Authority: Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Nico B
A visa cannot be transferred, but your extension of stay can.
That is of course correct, your original Visa will not be transferred, that is not possible.
However, through a stamp everything that has to do with your original Visa, with me OA, in a stamp fully stated in your new passport.
Then another stamp that contains the details of how and when you entered Thailand. So you no longer need your original Visa and your old passport.
At that time, the stamp of the last renewal of your Visa will also be transferred to your new passport with a stamp.
Nico B
The issue does not state Bangkok but the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and this has been the case for a while. It does state that this new passport is a replacement for the old one with number.
You will be issued at the municipality in the Netherlands, stated in Passport. So no consular or municipal declaration is necessary. Your passport is taken for real.
Why statement in Bangkok. because it is written there that is issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. If there was the Dutch embassy in Bangkok as before, there would be no problems.
You can prevent consular statement to really point immigration to the piece that says new passport is a continuation of old passport with NR………..
Succes
Passport obtained at the embassy, a statement is automatically added, would not just leave without this, as immigration can still ask for it and you must therefore go back.
My pappoort extended at town hall in Almere in May.
Same problem
My old passport contained visa pages
No problem, we only drill (invalidate) holes in those pages that do not contain a visa
The new passport states that it concerns a replacement of passport no …….
When you go to immigration, take 2 passports with you
The one im. want to see another statement from the embassy stating the same as in your new passport, namely that the passport is a replacement for passport no…..
The other imm is satisfied with the text in the new passport (in NL and in English).
Once again if you get a passport in NL you DO NOT NEED A STATEMENT FROM THE EMBASSY.
This week I applied for a new passport in Amsterdam. Immediately asked if they put something in the new passport regarding the replacement of the old passport, number, etc. They indicate that they will NOT do this because it causes problems and from now on you always have to travel with two passports (old and new).
So let's wait and see what will happen at Immigration in Chiang Mai when my Retirement visa is extended in January.
Robert, strange that the immigration in Amsterdam does not tell you that the new passport is printed that it is a replacement of the old passport with the corresponding number. See also comments above.
Again, if you apply for a passport in a municipality, you will not get an entry in your new passport. This information is contained in the register that all municipalities in the Netherlands can consult. Only passports issued by Embassies have this endorsement. A special code is sent to the passport producer with the application. I worked for that producer for more than 20 years. From the “black rag” to the current passport,
You can go to the Embassy in Bangkok with your old and new passports and ask if they can issue a consular statement.
I think Immigration in Chiang Mai will have a hard time without a statement or note in the old passport
Only recently obtained a new pp in Breda in which it is stated on a page at the front that this pp replaces the old one with no….
and yes it is true that I have said this before, but there are unbelieving Thomases among the readers if they want, I can also add a photo.
