Home » Reader question » Reader question: Is it possible to have Dutch books delivered to Thailand?
Dear readers,
Has anyone in Thailand ever bought Dutch books on a site such as Bol.com and had them delivered to their Thai address? What are your experiences? Are there any other options to have Dutch books delivered to Thailand?
Thanks and regards,
Jan
I bought an e-reader on one of my previous visits to the Netherlands. Great, you just look for your book online, pay, download and put it on your e-reader. Bol is one of the largest, but there are many more that sell e-books. Go search.
On the Bol.com site you can read that deliveries are also made to addresses outside the Netherlands. You then of course pay postage and delivery costs, which can add up considerably. For that reason I bought an e-reader in BKK last year. There are various brands. The reader contains a Dutch manual. I buy e-books from Dutch bookshops; In addition, there are many free titles to download. In Thailand you are expected to wait here and there for a long time. An e-reader is also a great solution because of its handy design. Nevertheless, I prefer to simply hold a book in my hands, but for the aforementioned reason, this is not always fulfilled
By the way: larger, somewhat more expensive smartphones also have a reader function.
Enjoy reading!
Hi Jan,
The best thing is to buy an ereader. You can then download any book you want and often cheaper than a book you have in hand.
With 20 kilos of luggage that you can take with you from NL
glad you don't have to carry books around.
About four or five years ago, there was no shipment to Thailand with a website order from BOL. I don't know how it is now just try.
But I often order from Dutch or German sites and have it delivered to my daughter in the Netherlands, who forwards it for me. Nutritional supplements have sometimes caused problems. (Were confiscated at customs because it was “food” and that requires a special permit)
Dear Jan,
I fully agree with the suggestion to purchase an E-reader. I also did it last September during a visit to the Netherlands. Also have a subscription to newsreader here in Thailand in combination with free Spotnet. Just look up http://www.snelnl.com/nl for the rates. I download free movies, series with Dutch subtitles. In addition, I download free books for my E-reader. Downloaded the latest book by Dan Brown Inferno yesterday! In the past stacks of books were carried in the suitcase, nowadays (with an extra card in E-reader) there are already more than 1.000 books in digital form. Gave away almost all my regular Dutch books here in Thailand.
Dear Theo,
have been a book club member for over 30 years and have purchased thousands of books. So really supported the entertainment industry. I have already given these books away for free. Incidentally, I think that digital books are much too expensive compared to printed books. Do you watch free news sites such as Nu.nl and Telegraaf? Bad for newspaper industry! Do you always order original DVDs in the Netherlands with Dutch subtitles or do you also buy a copied copy? Don't think it's appropriate if I give information to accuse me like that. From now on I won't respond - with any question whatsoever!
Moderator: Dear Rob, you don't have to defend yourself. It's our fault. We have removed the comment. This one slipped through, apologies from the moderator.
Get Jan,
look up one too http://www.magzine.nu
There you can also download very nice books and magazines.
Still have over 1000 left. and 200 English books by, among others, Stephan King at home that you can pick up for free against a donation to my Colin Young scholarship foundation. May also be in small numbers, because I was offered this for the children's homes here, but they only read English and Thai. [email protected] is my email
Dear Colin,
I would like to be recommended to take over some books from you when I am back in Pattaya???
I'll contact you when I get there.
Yours faithfully,
Joseph from Limburg.
Much depends on the destination address. The Thai post is not very reliable. Banknotes are sometimes sent in a book. Some postmen don't hesitate to open the package! And then…
DHL is the surest, but more expensive.
I already ordered a book from bookstore Berne from Heeswijk and it arrived well by normal mail.
If the destination is a small post office, have the address written in Thai too!

When I lived in Indonesia, I ordered books very regularly from Bol.com, and they were delivered neatly! You can order a maximum of 3 pieces and pay a fixed amount for shipping costs (was 15 euros) regardless of how heavy the books are. I say do it! Nothing beats a real book! Were always there after 10 days, without any problems, just keep an eye on the offers, then you will also have the shipping costs out!
Also have plenty of books at home in Pattaya, can you come and get an email I would say; nice donation for Collin's project.
Have been getting used to e-reader for a few years now, but I like it fine and already 10.000 books.
Happy reading!!
