Face masks only in Pattaya or also on Koh Samui?
Dear readers,
Yesterday I followed with interest your discussion about the face masks in Thailand. I don't want to get involved either, everyone should know for themselves what they are doing. What worries me is that we would like to take our family, parents and 3 children aged 12, 9 and 4 years to Koh Samui in mid-August. Does everyone there also wear a face mask or is that only in Pattaya?
If that is the case, I understand that and I understand that the Thais are careful, but then we choose another destination. I also understand that it is not mandatory, but we don't think it's a pleasant sight for ourselves and the children, after the stress of all the corona. We want to put that behind us. Again I'm not judging anyone but for us it's a thing.
Regards,
Ron and Ilse

As you can see on these live webcams, you only see a face mask in the streets sporadically. Mainly the Thai themselves.

If you look around on youtube a bit, there are also many vloggers who keep you informed almost daily by taking rides through the streets.
It can of course always change if the government decides otherwise in August.
Thais wear their mask all over Thailand. If you experience the face of mask-wearing people as disturbing and you no longer want to use it yourself, then it is better not to come to Thailand (yet).
Arrived in Koh Samui yesterday and not a single tourist wears a mask here. Greetings and have fun.
Just got back from 10 days Samui. There is no longer a mask obligation. The tourists don't wear one. Thais often still wear one. You don't have to wear face masks in shops either. I therefore did not use a face mask once during my stay. Incidentally, you must wear a face mask on the flight of Bangkok Air.
Face masks are slowly disappearing from the Thai street scene.
I don't wear one anymore but the Thais usually do, especially at the market. They remain afraid of a raging virus and still think those caps work. Even the highly educated are indoctrinated.
The Thai government is now considering reintroducing face masks inside, which is why it is a small step to make it mandatory outside again. So there is a good chance that it will be mandatory again in August.
Yes and then they all sit close together in a full and closed restaurant with air conditioning and then of course take off the mask to eat. They have no idea how a virus is transmitted.
Peter, so what? If that cloth becomes mandatory, you show it. That's it! It is known that a group becomes ill, also with governments, and they accept that people die. But do you have an alternative?
Everyone stay indoors, in an oxygen tent and eat from a can? Then we die of grumpiness and that is less fun than a flu. I'll take a chance, don't take any more boosters and I'll see when the man with the scythe knocks. We're all going to die, Peter!
