Dear readers,

My wife has dual nationality Dutch and Thai. I bought a ticket on her Dutch passport, but she is staying longer than 30 days, do I have to apply for a visa for her now?

Who has experience with this?

Regards,

John

She can just do immigration in Thailand on her Thai passport, and then stay indefinitely. She may have to show her Thai passport when checking in in the Netherlands/Belgium. Not showing the Dutch passport at immigration in Thailand, that only causes confusion.

When leaving Thailand, she must show her Thai passport again at immigration, not the Dutch one.

If she enters Thailand with her Thai passport, she does not need a visa.
If she only travels on the Dutch passport, she does need a visa.

    Netherlands-EU in/out: show Dutch passport
    Thailand in/out: Show Thai passport

Keep the passport of the other country ready if they want to see if you have access. It is not forbidden, but showing it immediately gives border guards more hassle. Normally the border guard won't ask for it either, but check-in staff probably will.
