Dear readers,

At the end of April 2023 I would like to travel to Belgium with my family (wife and daughter). My question is, can you possibly push me in the right direction, I don't know how to act. Regarding my 4 year old daughter, with both Belgian/Thai nationality, holds both valid Belgian passport + Kids-ID and valid Thai passport.

What formalities do we have to complete to allow my daughter to travel to Belgium, is a Belgian passport sufficient? (has a valid Belgian international passport as well as a valid Kids-ID).

What formalities do we have to complete for my daughter to travel back to Thailand at the end of May? (Possess valid international Thai passport).

Hoping for a positive answer.

Regards,

Hubert

No formalities are required, there is no problem, with the Thai passport and the Belgian kids ID your daughter can simply travel to Belgium. My wife and daughter always travel back and forth, even though they both also have Belgian nationality. Entering with a Thai passport is recommended, but entering with a Belgian passport they simply receive a 45-day stamp, like every Belgian.

If you are traveling together as a family, you don't have to do anything.

At check-in they will ask for a visa (for your wife who I assume is Thai). Your daughter can, of course, travel to Belgium without any problems on the basis of the Belgian passport. The other way around (to Thailand) idem ditto; for the Belgian authorities she is Belgian, for the Thai she is Thai and can therefore easily access the country on the basis of her passport of the country in question (no visa required).

If one of the parents is traveling alone with a minor, permission from the other parent is required. You can collect a form for this (for a fee of 50 baht) at the local municipality in Thailand. From Belgium I don't know, but in the Netherlands there is a downloadable form that the other parent can fill in to give permission. That form is free. You can also draw up a statement (in English) yourself to grant this permission. All this to prevent child abduction.
