Reader question: What about liquidations in Thailand?
Dear readers,
Here in the Netherlands you often hear that someone was shot and that was a settlement in the drug world.
On Thailandblog I read little about this. Does this not happen as often in Thailand as in the Netherlands?
Yours faithfully,
Henk
Strange question, why the interest? Anyway, an answer: in Thailand, one or two people are liquidated on a regular basis now and then, here and there, for example recently: http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/crime/693916/youths-murdered-after-quarrel-at-bullfight-stable
I didn't know it happened "often" in the Netherlands.
In Thailand it also happens and it can be for any reason. Two months ago on the corner of our street between two students. Cause – loss of face…. just finished with 5 shots.
That exists all over the world. The rate is probably a bit lower here (=joke).
Happens very often, often especially in the smallest villages. Sometimes for the craziest things, recently in Cha Am in a karaoke, little fight, go, bullet in the head. In Thailand, a lot of bad news is concealed so that the tourist thinks it is safe. A lot of people get shot here.
It happens often.
Business disputes are often resolved with murder.
This doesn't happen as much in Thailand as in the Netherlands, but it does happen...
Usually it is about settlements between European criminals who feel good in Thailand to let their money roll and lead a lavish and relaxed life (or so they think).
The job is usually done by Thai men.
Quite a strange question!?
I remember John Mierenet, shot dead in Pattaya, Thailand.
He probably would have been safer in the Netherlands at the time,
in Thailand, a murdered 'foreigner' is not interesting anyway
and quite easy to implement, nobuddy see an talks.
I don't think it's ever solved?
Also happens here and is probably a lot cheaper than in the Netherlands and the chance of getting caught is smaller. Hey, do you have someone in mind?
Hai Sjaak, ha, ha, no, certainly not, wanted to say in JM's case that he hadn't gone to Pattaya.
No, never on my street.
John Mieremet is ID. murdered in Thailand, but something about Thai perpetrators is mentioned in the comments, while the police here and in Thailand suspect a hired Western perpetrator / shooter because of this. his height and the English way of addressing him.
Furthermore, murders in Thailand are daily fare as mentioned earlier for various reasons, loss of face (mainly ), business disputes, and politics, there is much more happening in Thailand than the few smiles on your first holiday would suggest.
The perpetrators of the murder of John M who thought he was safe in Thailand were 2 Moroccans on a motorcycle, they were arrested in the Netherlands. Thailand is in the top with murders, mostly Thai among themselves.
Well dear Jack, give me a link where it says that only 1 suspect has ever been arrested, let alone 2 for the murder of John?!!! One is suspected of the assignment, but that will come to court later. It should be clear who this is about! Schgutters have never been found, but anxiously awaiting your link…?
Here in Thailand it is life-threatening as described in examples. As loss of face is perhaps the most important! but also just in traffic etc.
Hank a strange question. But maybe I can make you happy.
On the FAQT site, Bangkok ranks 10th in terms of violence.
Only Bangkok in 2009 … …. 5.000 murders and 20.000 assaults.
Mainly related to drugs. Thailand is one of the most dangerous countries in the world. Tourists don't notice or read anything about it, but look at channel 7 late in the evening and you'll see a bit.
I don't plan anything at all I live in the Netherlands and will continue to live here, but I have been to Thailand 12 times and have not noticed any crime, which of course is there.
I do notice that the subway is and remains so neat, no loiterers anywhere where I have to think now take extra care.
But my question was not whether people were killed or violent crimes took place.
My question was: Are there more or fewer settlements for drug liquidations and then expressed in percentages.
Greetings
Hank,
What are you up to? Like in every country, there are jealous husbands, rival gangs and raunchy cafe fights. And that includes deaths. Just stay away from that and you won't have any problems. I've only seen it on TV so far. The chance of an accident in traffic is greater. But here too: adapted driving applies. If you look/think ahead (which most Thais do/can't do) you also have a good chance of surviving.
it happened to my other half.
She left her violent ex and started her own business in the MBK shopping center with her savings.
Her ex then hired a gang of thugs to smash everything.
He did so to tie her to him financially in the hopes that she would return.
This drama significantly influenced her further life.
Very sorry.
Say Henk, if you have a TV at home in Thailand, you should tune it to a few Thai channels, if you can't understand it but watching is enough, there are a few victims every day, just for your information, I'm only in the Netherlands. 98% of the guys are in the drug trade and don't earn anything else, but you only start thinking about that when your daughter or son has become a junkie because of them.
This also happens in Thailand. But
Only Bangkok in 2009 … …. 5.000 murders and 20.000 assaults.
Mind you, Bangkok has 16 million inhabitants.
Thailand just over 70 million.
You can calculate the percentages yourself with compare Netherlands.
