Reader question: Who knows nice beaches and cozy places on Phuket
Dear readers,
We (my wife daughter and me) are going to Phuket in 3 weeks. We have seen a lot of Asia but this will be Thailand for the first time.
We've been looking around the internet for a few days now. If I'm right, Patong is the nicest and most lively in the evenings (shops, markets, cafes, etc.), only the beach / sea is a bit disappointing. I have that picture but could be wrong.
Who has good advice, tips and can help us? We would like to see beautiful places and visit beautiful beaches and in the evening we like to socialize.
Thank you in advance.
Best regards,
Karim
Dear Karim, go to Paradise Bech, just outside Patong, you can enjoy yourself there. You can find it through google.
Greetings
If you want peace and beautiful ydillic beaches, choose Bang Tao and/or Layan Beach, you have a beautiful b&b Baan Malinee (www.bedandbreakfastinphuket.com) nearby and if you want more action, Patong is only half an hour away. the scooter or the rental car as well as Phuket town.
We can only confirm what Eric writes. Layan beach is enjoying the peace and the beautiful beach.
Dear Karim,
A part of Thailand that is relatively unknown to tourists if you want to combine beautiful beaches and nightlife is Ao Manao, it is located about 70 km from Hua Hin (more south) nice restaurants and bars and slowly sloping water into the sea. A taxi directly from Bangkok aiport to Ao Manao costs 100 euros, but can also be done perfectly with the VIP bus from the airport to Hua-Hin and from there with a taxi or public bus.
Because there is no mass tourism yet, it is relatively quieter and everything is much cheaper than in Phuket and Hua-Hin. Enjoy beautiful Thailand and have fun.
Patong is a busy holiday resort and there is therefore something to see and experience.
I prefer the more quiet Karon. A smaller holiday resort where there is also something to see and experience.
Enough bars, shops and restaurant(s).
It's just what you want.
We are there from 7 to 20 December and then another week to the family.
Hello Karim.
I have now been to Patong twice and the beach is not that bad if you compare it to Pattaya for example… It depends on whether you have transport there to go on an adventure yourself, if not then you can go to Paradise beach , a lot smaller than Patong beach and very nice that is close by and easy to do with a taxi. You can also book an excursion to coral Island or coconut Island. I would also like to see some tips as I will be heading that way again early next year….Have fun!.
Regards Jan.
for your information. http://www.knowphuket.com/beaches/south_west.htm
Dear Karim.
The town of Patong is particularly nice. At the beginning of April 2014 I was in Patong. You could rent chairs on the beach. This seems to be over now. Bring towels. At that time, there were many food stalls, open massage on the beach. This also seems to be gone now. The boulevard gives you plenty of opportunity to strengthen your inner self. Next to Mac Donald the post office. Enough entertainment. The city center has everything. Beautiful department stores, good restaurants, open markets. This is located behind the department store. Sorry, I don't know the name at the moment. It's self-explanatory. A large blue bus runs on the beach road every half hour. Raise your hand and get in. This bus takes you to Phuket town for 30 bath per person. Very nice. It takes about 1 hour drive. The entertainment in the evening is great. I don't know how old your daughter is, but I still want to keep an eye out for what there is to see in the evenings, if you know what I mean. (nicely said).
From the airport you can take a taxi, costs 800 and 1000 bath, or in the arrivals hall with a minibus a 200 bath pp to your hotel or guesthouse. It's a good stay. I wish you a lot of fun.
Kind regards Jan.
Dear Jan d and others.
The name of the department store, near the market, in Phuket town near the main street, is Robinson's, one of the nicest department stores I know in Thailand, there are several department stores there, each with their own specialty (clothing, European food, fashion accessories)
The entire area around the Robinson's department store is a nice area, you can wander there all day and eat what you want, all European chains have a branch there, McDonald's, Svensons (ice cream parlor), pizza hut, but there is also a a few very good Thai restaurants, in short, a nice place to spend a day there, the market behind the department store is gigantic and especially in the evening it is very busy, lots of clothing and fake items, but also official stores of Adidas, Converse and La Coste, recommended for a day and an evening of shopping and eating and great fun watching the Thai young people who hang out there in the evening (no nuisance).
Yours faithfully,
Lex K.
Phuket has several beautiful to very beautiful beaches,
You only have to get on the motorbike / tuktuk,
And can eg explore a different beach every day, if your home base is patong.
We ourselves have seen just about all the beaches of Phuket.
and 1 beach (you) has stayed with me,: laem sing beach.
Not very big, but cozy, cozy, good food, clean, and..beautiful!
I'd say go check it out.
good luck!
karim, patong beach is by far the most to experience, but what was unforgettable for me and is definitely recommended to make a trip by boat to the james bond islands, I emphasize that you have to book with a canoe trip. very beautiful, 2 films were recorded on the James Bond Islands, you also get delicious food on the boat and go to beautiful locations by canoe. It is also recommended to take a boat trip to Phi Phi Islands, that is paradise. fun to do, rent a jeep for a day and take a tour of the entire island, then you will see all the beautiful things on phuket.happy holiday .. manni
Nonsense to go to paradise beach with your daughter, you have to cross an almost impregnable slope to get to the beach. Patong , beautiful but very busy, kata karon very busy. Kamala beach nice and quiet with restaurants on the beach, surin nice and a bit busier and with restaurants on the beach, bangtao same, layan quiet and nice little or no restaurants on the beach, nai tong nice beach quiet, and restaurants. In the evenings you have the most at Patong beach, a little less than Patong, but still many bars kata and karon. The choice is yours. Have fun in beautiful Phuket, want to know more please pass on your email.
We are coming to Thailand on January 13 for the 12th time, how is the situation with the chair rental on the beaches. We like to go to Bantao and Layan beach.
Please more news.
Not a single chair or umbrella yet, and it looks like it won't happen again this season, if you want can keep you posted
I read elsewhere that Rudi Poldervaart wrote that the beach beds are coming back, albeit regulated by the government?
I would find it a huge disappointment if I had to lie on a towel 🙁
NB go just after Christmas
@Marcow; do you live in Patong? Please keep me posted
Even if the beds come back, the problem will not be solved.
There is talk of 1 row of umbrellas.
If there were as many tourists as before, it would be queuing (or paying extra) for a parasol.
I would like to be informed when beach chairs and umbrellas are allowed again. Thank you in advance.
We're here now. According to the Jetski's lessor, the cots will be back within a few weeks (according to him, within 2 weeks). You now have the Asian Games 2014 here in Karon. There is now a lot of police and army, but the situation is expected to change after the games. And right, they would come back regulated, but the proposal regarding the number of beds made by the government was not accepted by the sellers (mafia?).
Incidentally, the beach is super, if you compare it to the past. Try the towel, or drop by Willem van Bo's Beach Bar, which always has chairs that you can borrow. And when they are gone, you can always rent a mat from a Thai on the beach, or go by boat or taxi to Paradise Beach where there are beds.
Hello Karim,
My wife and I rent out an apartment in Patong Beach. We are currently there ourselves.
I agree with Paradise Beach, but would also like to mention Freedom Beach.
Send me a message (address known to the editors) and indicate your wishes.
Bars are plentiful in Patong Beach, as are restaurants and food stalls.
When I see your name I think you are Muslim. Even then you are in the right place in Patong Beach. The number of Halal restaurants is growing day by day.
Have a nice day, Kim and Bert van Hees
Hi Karim,
I have been to Phuket 11 times. Patong is a nice base. Enough to do there and it is centrally located. I myself rarely sit on the beach of Patong itself. I don't know how old your daughter is (if she can sit independently on the back of a scooter). The easiest way is to rent 2 scooters. Then you are completely free (just drive carefully in traffic there and you officially need a motorcycle license). If you always have to take a tuk tuk, you will lose quite a bit of extra money (especially for the way back). I love to drive a bit instead of lying on the beach all day.
As for the beaches the following:
Paradise Beach: is a beautiful beach near Patong. You have to climb a steep hill and you can't really swim because of the sharp rocks (wear shoes in the water)
Laem Singh Beach: north of Patong is also beautiful and relaxed, although the last 2 years it has become a lot busier there (including the landscaped viewpoint). You have to make a fairly steep walk down.
Kamala and Surin: not my favorite beaches, not super nice and quite narrow.
Nai Yang Beach: I personally find it very relaxed and beautiful. Thai families also come here (No cots there).
Karon: wide beach, not super nice, but high waves (but dangerous current!)
Kata: Not really super nice either.
Nai Harn: one of my favorite beaches. Wide and beautiful.
Ao-Sane: Definitely a favorite because you can snorkel there. Take some bread into the water and you will see plenty of beautiful fish. It is only a small beach with little space.
