Home » Reader question » Reader question: Who has experience renting a car from Budget in Thailand?
Dear readers,
Who has experience renting a car from Budget in Thailand? Are there any specific things you should pay attention to?
Can you rely on their blue or brown eyes that you are well insured on the road?
I look forward to your responses.
Regards,
Ben
Hallo,
We always have these http://www.ezyrentacar.com good reliable and not expensive!
Given the many comments regarding renting a car, motorcycle or jet ski, I would recommend taking out an all-risk insurance policy so that all costs are covered. Also make an extensive photo series of the car (the best is with time and date indication on the photos, so that it can always be demonstrated afterwards that certain damage was already present before the start of the rental period.
In previous posting: Who has tips for car rental in Thailand. There is an experience of someone who always rents budget cars as well as various tips in the other comments that you should pay attention to when renting a motor vehicle in Thailand.
Although the name suggests otherwise, Budget is one of the more expensive providers of rental cars. Booked through them the last two times, because service and cars are perfectly fine. Always take out full insurance, whereby you buy off your deductible. Not only does this save you the tour around the car to check for existing damage, but also any hassle afterwards if a branch, moped or monkey has left a scratch on your rental car.
You can book via the Thai Budget website, it is easy.
Rented from them several times for several days. Excellent with excellent quality / price ratio.
If it concerns a later planned trip, it can be today to buy discount vouchers well in advance. They have regular offers.
Read for “today” “handy”. Typo
I have had the best experiences with Budget in Thailand. Really also perfect and friendly service. At the Airport in the arrivals hall own counter. Back I also hand in the keys there again because their own drop-off point is difficult to find. I park the car at the departure hall. Refuel on time along the highway. It is difficult to find a gas station at the Airport. Buy off the deductible, but so calmly for yourself. If you accidentally get a one-sided dent, fill in the included damage form on the way, they state that you hand it in on delivery. It is therefore covered, but Budget must have a statement about it. Budget does not require a down payment. Always book directly with Budget! And not through an intermediary or broker. Sometimes it seems cheaper, but with complications you go into the boat. In addition, a deposit is required that you can quickly lose if you want to change something in your booking.
I think the best way is still: “LET YOU DRIVE”.
Every time I am in Thailand I am amazed by the traffic and the code of conduct of the drivers.
This is not at all in line with what we are used to. Moreover, you drive on the left and the various switches and speeds are on the wrong side.
If you still want to drive, don't do it in Bangkok or Pattaya. It is simply suicide and in an accident you are wrong in most cases. After all, you are a “Farang”.
Take this as good advice from someone who has been coming to Thailand for 37 years and has experienced almost everything.
Matter of adjustment, Karel. If you are so surprised about the “code of conduct” of the (Thai) drivers, why would you get into the car with such a driver? Incidentally, the various switches in Thai cars are on the right side (relative to the driver's seat) and the rental cars are usually equipped with an automatic gearbox. Of course, everyone's adaptability is not the same. But yes, I've only been driving more than a month in Thailand every year for ten years, so I don't have much experience.
As for the question, the reputable landlords usually have their insurance in order. The deductible is often relatively low and the lump sum payment is often disproportionately high. If the rental period is one month or longer, the ratio between the lump sum and the deductible is somewhat more favourable. In addition, the risk of damage also increases with a longer rental period. In other words, consider all factors. In the ten years that I now rent a car in Thailand, I have had damage once due to a collision by a Thai who blamed me. Called the police, called the insurer and the collision has had no financial consequences for me. Car was changed within an hour (in Korat). My hats off to the handling by the police and landlord. This rental company was 'Thai Rent a Car' (also has a desk in the arrivals hall). I also have good experiences with Hertz.
Have rented from different companies in Thailand, but still have the best experience with Budget car. The advantage with budget car is that it includes an all risk insurance. Had window damage once and a dent once and didn't have to pay anything both times. She also finds them competitive in terms of price and that is why I always choose Budget car these days.
Dear Ben, Have rented a Toyota Fortuner several times from Budge at Khon Kaen AirPort. Excellent service, car is ready with air conditioning running. We always do full waiver of deductible, paid and deposit via Credit Card (AMEX). The penultimate time Nov.'15 had a collision with a crossing dog, the damage was accepted without any problems. Incidentally, I have also rented from Avis and Hertz, always without any problems. The only time we rented locally TOP Rent a Car, problems that we would have made damage. Ergo, rent from an international chain, then you're safe. Happy Holidays.
We have been renting cars from Budget in Thailand for years. Great experience, almost always new cars, well maintained.
Never had any problems with payment via cc. Inspection for damage upon return always very smooth, never a discussion. Of course always carry out a good inspection at the start. Always ask for a quote, which can be requested by e-mail. Price is always very competitive for long rents.
We rent a car with the normal standard insurance, if you don't feel comfortable with it you can take out additional insurance for 100 bath per day. We are now renting again for three months and cannot find it cheaper or better anywhere, great car and delivered to our hotel where we return it.
In summary, great landlord, good cars.
In general for car rentals, make sure you have a credit card with the number embossed on it. There are now new cards without relief, these, like pre-paid cards, are not accepted for a guarantee by many car rental companies.
A relief is no longer necessary these days. It used to be used in a device to make a paper carbon copy. Nowadays everything is electronic.
Dear All,
my heartfelt thanks, if there are more people who want to share their experiences with us, please do.
We especially want to have the insurance chapter properly arranged.
I even heard that you can arrange a rental car in Thailand through the Netherlands.
Regards,
Ben
Hi Ben, I don't want to be sarcastic, but via the Internet everything around the world can be arranged from your lazy chair in NL or beach chair in TH. Your comment that you can even arrange a rental car from NL in TH sounds rather naive. We ourselves always book the fixed elements of our stay well in advance from NL. Domestic flights, boat transfers, mini vans, hotels, etc. everything you wish can be arranged in advance for those moments that you do not want to leave to chance. Have a nice holiday.
We have also been renting the car from budget for years, never had any problems and usually drive about 2500 km.
We have been coming to Thailand for twelve years and have always rented from a Thai family. This jsar rented a car for the first time at sunny cars in the Netherlands. Also check how well insured you are. Because that is very different with the Thai rental companies. It is good if you take a look at the amounts of the insurance. Good luck.
