Dear readers,

Want to visit my girlfriend in Thailand this summer. Have already arranged everything: quarantine hotel, flight, etc. Unfortunately, I was told by the embassy that I have to apply for my Certificate of Entry again in June.

I then emailed the embassy asking why the request was rejected. They had yet to receive more information from the State Department about tourists after May 31.

Can anyone tell me more about this? Why not apply for another CoE until June?

Regards,

Marnix

Last week I also had contact with the Thai embassy in The Hague.

They advised me to start applying for the CoE a month before departure (July, in my situation).

Maybe that's what they mean by the answer given to you? If you can be a bit more specific, I'll try to think along with you.

    They say why anyway
“They still needed to receive more information from the State Department about tourists after May 31.”

The situation may be completely different when you leave and no longer in accordance with the conditions at the time the CoE was applied for and/or issued.

I think the Embassy is simply trying to avoid issuing COEs too far in the future due to the ever changing (and not in a favorable direction, unfortunately) situation in Thailand.

Dear Marnix, you have asked why your request for a COE request has been rejected. The embassy responded that “they still needed to receive more information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs about tourists after May 31.” What do you think: could it be that 'people' want to be able to respond to the current situation of June? Seems clear to me!

In my best Thai I just spoke to someone from the Thai embassy.

He told me the following about this topic:

The ban on international flights applies until at least May 31, 2021. This is nothing new and in accordance with the current conditions.

Traveling to Thailand is therefore officially not allowed for the "normal" tourist, unless he / she is going to apply for a CoE and possibly a visa.

If I have understood correctly, then what has been explained to you by email is correct. Namely that nothing is yet known about admitting tourists after May 31. Simply because the ban on international flights imposed last year is active until May 31, 2021.
