Dear readers,

How does a transit from a local flight to an international flight in Bangkok go? I've never done this myself. Monday I fly from Khong Kaen to Bangkok and then to Amsterdam. I suspect that I cannot label my suitcase in Khong Kaen to Amsterdam?

I have to pick up my suitcase in Bangkok and then….? I don't know how to proceed. Can someone help me?

Regards,

Ed

Indeed, you have to collect your luggage, then go upstairs to check in for your foreign flight and drop off your luggage, and then pass through security and passport control.

But if you arrive internationally, you first go through immigration and then collect your suitcase.
So I suspect that these suitcases from a local flight arrive somewhere else.
Is this the case and is it well marked?

It goes from national to international.

I only now that you are the questioner.
National and international is well separated and clearly indicated

If you do arrive at Suvarnabhumi, otherwise you have to go from Don Muang to Suvarnabhumi and that can easily take an hour.

As of next Wednesday, almost all domestic flights in Thailand will no longer be operated! And that is (unfortunately) not an April 1 joke….

Last year I flew from Koh Samui to Bangkok and then on to Brussels. In Koh Samui I was asked if I still had a connecting flight, the answer was yes, I already received my boarding pass for both flights and did not have to collect my luggage, I think this only applies if you first make a domestic flight in Thailand, good luck

    Hi,

When I flew from Koh Samui to Amsterdam via bkk, I was able to have my suitcase labeled with Ams right away. You do have to say it right away at check-in. They will then ask about your itinerary. No problem otherwise. Once at bkk airport you walk via a transit to international. Everything is checked again. At the gate to Ams they check whether your suitcase is already on board.

    Regards, Thijs

Last March 3, I left Udon Thani with Lion Air at 9 am to Bangkok and arrived at 10.05 am. At 10.30 am I had my suitcase from the belt and then went to the 4th floor where I checked in at EVA air. At about 11.20 I had already passed customs and was well in time for my flight to Amsterdam, which left at 12.50. Unfortunately, you have not added times and companies, so I do not know whether this is of any use to you, but do you have a small little indication.
    Good luck,
    ralph

Thai Lion Air does NOT fly to Suvarnabhumi, so that information is confusing to say the least.

with thai or thai smile is good all the other countries don muang

    Bonjour Ed.

There are two early morning flights from Thai Smile to Suvarnabhumi ( 07.00 / 08.00 )
I have experienced this myself ( 9 x ) with good service , including free coffee and snacks in the waiting room , the last time last February
Upon arrival, collect your luggage yourself ( Domestic Arivals ) and go to the top floor via the elevator or stairs.
There are all international check-in desks including information desks.

If you fly via Dong Muang, I refer you to the announcement from fellow forem member Siam.

    Safe journey

Ed, you don't report where you arrive, but I suspect Don Mueang. You depart from Suvarnabhumi. There is a free shuttle bus between the 2 airports every half hour. But in these times everything can be a little different. Good luck!

When you arrive in Suvarnaphum, what NS says is correct, but most domestic airlines fly to Don Muang. You then have to pick up your suitcase at the belt, a trolley is useful, then you have two options. 1. take a taxi outside to Suvarnaphum. 2 take the free shuttle bus departs every hour, sometimes even every half hour. This shuttle bus departs from terminal 1, you arrive in 2. When you walk to terminal one you will see a counter at the walkway to the entrance of Hotel Amari. Here you have to show your ticket and get a stamp to get on the bus. You will be dropped off outside the departure hall 45min to 1 1/2 hours later.
    Good luck

    Hi Ed,
as stated by NS it is correct, if you fly with Thai Smile or another domestic flight then you cannot label your luggage to Amsterdam.
I assume that you travel directly to Suvarnabhumi from Khon Kaen as I always do.
collect luggage from the belt and upstairs.
it's not that hard and self explanatory, s6
for the rest there are all kinds of stories here that are of no use to you, as often happens lately.
people often read badly but that aside

    Hi Ed,
Yesterday at 9.00 AM to Suvarnabhum with Thai Smile from Ubon Ratchathani. Even landed before schedule at 9.45 am, suitcase was already on the baggage carousel. Elevator to the 4th and still plenty of time to check in.

    • PEER says up

Sorry, just a correction to my comment.
Of course I meant Thai Smile instead of Lion Air .
    Well spotted Cornelius.
