Reader question: Negative Covid test before my trip to Thailand
Dear readers,
Hello, I am leaving 27/11 with Lufthansa from Brussels via Frankfurt to Bangkok. I need another negative covid test next week. It is not clear to me whether the 72 hours count from the test or from the result of the test and also is it the time of departure in Brussels (10.35 am) or the time of departure in Frankfurt (14.20 pm) that is used at 72 count back hours?
Thanks.
Regards,
Luc
Those 72 hours start counting from your departure from the country of origin, in other words Belgium.
It is as Cornelis says.
To be sure, take a screenshot of how it appears on the website of the Thai embassy in Brussels.
You will only have a little delay and someone who does not know well when checking in Frankfurt.
HLlo Sjoerd, where can I find the information on the website to take that screenshot?
Thank you Luc
I may be wrong but the only sense this Non Covid test would make, although not even 100% sure, would be 72 hours from the date this test was taken.
If this test date is already longer, and you only get the result that you are negative shortly before your flight, this negative result can be long gone again due to an infection that you have incurred in the long waiting period between the test and the final flight date. being positive.
Again I'm not sure, that's why I would advise you to ask the Thai consulate again.
72 hours count from the time of taking the test and from the moment of departure of your first flight.
Not applicable to us, but perhaps nice to mention.
The moment of departure of your first flight applies in a small country, because this is also the moment of departure from the country of origin. But in the USA or Australia, for example, you can go wrong with that.
In the USA there were people who first had a domestic flight of a few hours, then a transfer that took a handful of hours and then were refused because then "the time from your departure from the country of origin" became applicable and they just 72 hours had passed.
Sorry, but it's still unclear.
Is this meant: a maximum of 72 hours between the administration of the test UNTIL the time of departure of your (first) flight.
Twice ¨from΅ is linguistically incorrect and illogical.
this test starts counting the moment the Docter enters the barcode after testing.
That was clear on my inspection.
then I had to do another test.
first was Thursday 11.20 am the second Friday 18.50 pm this one was good.
so Saturday 18,50 pm is 24 hours Sunday 18,50 pm is 48 hours Monday arrived at 14 pm with 6 hours difference
this one was OK
I left Brussels on a Thursday at 14 pm. My test was allowed to be taken from Monday 14 pm.
I also had a stopover in Doha and had to wait there for 3 hours. I actually had myself tested on Monday at 16 p.m.
So basically I had already been tested for more than 72 hours in Doha. But that turned out not to be the problem. It is indeed 72 hours before your departure.
At Frankfurt airport you can also get tested for free. On our way to Switzerland during the autumn holidays, we stopped at the airport and had it tested and upon arrival in Italy we had already received an email with the test results. German Red Cross offers it for free at the airport.
Given the quick results, I doubt that this is the PCR test required for Thailand. Moreover, you run the risk that you will not be allowed on board in Frankfurt for the flight to BKK without already having the test certificate.
