Reader question: Does a Thai who travels with a Dutch passport have to pay for the quarantine himself?
Dear readers,
A Thai friend who has been living in the Netherlands for 17 years would like to visit her family in Thailand. She has a Dutch passport and her Thai passport has expired, so she always travels with her Dutch passport.
If she goes to Thailand now she has to be quarantined, my question is whether she has to pay for this herself? She is still a Thai citizen I think.

Wouldn't it be wiser to ask the Thai Embassy this question?
In my first reaction I assume that she still has Thai nationality, despite the fact that the passport has expired.
She can still renew her passport at the Thai consulate or Thai embassy.
I think the same - renew the expired Thai passport at the Thai Embassy and all doubt and interpretation are gone.
Your girlfriend is and remains a Thai citizen - dual nationality is not prohibited here.

Just like Cornelis has already written, I would just ask at the Thai consulate.
If she does have to be quarantined with her Dutch passport, there is always the option to apply for a new Thai passport for 35 euros via the consulate.
The correct question is: can she enter Thailand on an expired ID card/passport as a Thai national? Answer: Yes, you can.
