Home » Reader question » Reader question: Is everything still available in Thailand because of corona?
Dear readers,
We are flying to Thailand next week. We decided to go anyway, because otherwise we would have lost our money for the tickets. The cancellation insurance does not pay out in this situation. We are going backpacking for 4 weeks.
We, two women, wondered if everything is still available in Thailand because of the corona virus? Otherwise we have to take a lot more from here. Like, for example, sanitary towels and other things for women?
Greetings,
Madeline and Laura
Haha, don't worry, there is no hoarding here
Everything is simply available.
Many festivities with Songkran are canceled
Greetings
Dear ladies,
You don't have to worry. Fortunately, it is not the same as in the Netherlands. Everything is available in abundance at Tesco/Lotus and 7-Eleven in every town or village.
Have fun in Thailand
No problem here, just full shelves.
Dear Madeleine and Laura,
I can only speak about Ko Chang Island. Ko Chang is less touristy than Phuket and is not seen as a potential risk area by the government like Bangkok, Phuket or Chiang Mai.
Everything is available here, we still have tourists, not even hoarding customers in the Makro or Tesco supermarket.
Sometimes the shelves for ma-maa (the popular instant noodle soup) are empty, but that's normal here. No partial lock downs have been announced (yet). You only sometimes notice that the staff wears a face mask and that your temperature is measured at the entrance of the supermarket.
Have a nice and safe holiday!
Hi Madeleine and Laura, just read your message in the supermarket. And see the shelves are full, also with sanitary towels. Have a nice trip and have a nice time in Thailand,
Regards, Freek Vermolen Koh Chang
Everything available, except face masks.
But William!!!!!
How many dozen or gross face masks do you want?
Dear Pear,
We have been to many shops but there are no face masks for sale here on Phuket.
We would like to have some so if you can send them that would be great. I am happy to pay for them of course.
Greetings from warm and sunny Phuket.
Dear ladies,
Everything is for sale in multiples, including toiletries in, among others, the seven eleven that are present in every street.
The temperature is now high and high summer clothes with flip flops don't weigh much!
Don't worry and have a nice trip!!
Do
You only need things for accidents while flying and for 1 day of clothing. Everything is for sale here and for 7 euros you have a new pair of jeans and for 3 euros a new t-shirt.
Toothbrushes, toothpaste and soap are available in sufficient quantity and every Tesc0-Lotus and or Big-C has a food court where you can eat yourself completely hot for 7 euros.
We returned last week and everything was still available.
Supplies in the Thai interior have always been and still are a problem. So we always have a ridiculous supply of sustainable food at home and medicines and fuel and pesticides, even a generator with 5 days' worth of fuel in case the power goes out and you can hand out the entire freezer to the neighbors. Everything is available in Bangkok, but when it comes down to it, they sell out in a few days and it takes quite some time before everything is available again. But don't worry: if you are simply European "rich" you won't starve and the "women's" things you need will certainly not be sold out. Thai women cannot afford that, but it is still widely available in Western stores such as Tesco, as are the “men's” things that are unaffordable for a Thai man. So enjoy backpacking throughout Thailand without any worries. And the virus has not yet reached Thailand because they do not have enough test kits. So it is there but they don't know it, maybe better. Have fun during your holiday
May I ask where the hell you live? I is located 40 km from the center of Uttaradit 15 km from the main road in a dead end area (horseshoe-shaped valley). But even here we have a gas station, an amazon and a 7-eleven and otherwise enough toko's.
Furthermore, there are plenty of cars and there is even a daily "bus" service with the bathbus to Uttaradit. Can't imagine there's nothing there. I think your story is really meant as a joke.
Don't know with the airline you booked, but you can rebook or cancel with various companies. Even in Canada, flights can already be canceled. Know from reliable family source. Check with your insurance company if you don't have to stay in quarantine. And the airline no longer flies.
Very important! We were able to cancel everything and have our money back.
Hallo,
Returned yesterday from Isaan. Everything was still in stock and there would be only very few infections in Thailand. But what does this say, I don't think anything. It's about tomorrow and beyond, no one knows what will happen then. Moreover, you should not overestimate the truth about the infections. Traveling in itself is exciting, because the rules change every minute per country. Yesterday at Etihad we all had to remain seated when landing. Some moon males came in and everyone was tested for temperature. This took about 1 hour. Then the people who stayed in Abu Dabi were allowed out first and then the rest. I don't know what would happen if someone was found with a fever. Maybe the entire plane is quarantined for two weeks. You are still young if you want to take all these risks you have to go. But remember that it can change within 1 hour and you may regret it.
We arrived in Bangkok on Friday with eva air. Tried to cancel but got nothing back. So we went anyway, we are thinking about going home earlier if possible. Incidentally, the plane was more than half empty on the outward journey.
