Dear readers,

My trip to the Netherlands was planned from March 7 to March 27. But then the measure came that foreigners were no longer allowed to enter Thailand and I am still in the Netherlands.

Now my Thai driver's license expires on May 4, 2020 and I don't think I'll be back in Thailand then.

My question is, will I run into problems with that or can it also be done later this year?

Regards,

Leo

Mine is also expiring soon, but the issuing offices here in TH are closed. I was told that I can apply for an extension up to a maximum of one year after the last day of validity.

That is correct, but you will have to “watch” a video again. That's how it went for me anyway. In addition, you must have at least a visa and not a visa of less than 30 days. In addition, a statement from a Thai doctor with regard to health is required.

You must watch that video here – CR – anyway with every renewal, at whatever time you request it. A health statement is not requested for an extension. At least: not here, but that can be quite different 100 km away………

    Don't worry Leo.

Me and my wife were also 'too late' with renewal, 2 and 6 weeks respectively. No one said anything about it. So no problem at all.

The old driver's license remains valid for at least 1 year

Normally (without virus) One can renew his driver's license 3 months before the expiry date. But normally not after the end date. In the past, it could be allowed to expire for up to a year, but this has been changed due to a lot of abuse.
Now that the office is closed, it is best to check when it opens again when you return and then renew as soon as possible
    success

Where can I find that a driving license can no longer be renewed after it has expired for more than 3 months. My wife has looked on several Thai websites and according to her it is still a year.

      Dear Henk

That is not true; Until recently, you could only renew your driving license after the validity of your driving license had expired. Now this is possible before and after that up to one year after your driving license has expired. If you have not yet done so, you will have to take a new theory test.

You can extend it until after the validity date and then up to and including your birthday. So in extreme cases this would be 1 year if the issue was on your birthday. So this in Chiang Mai.

Normally one can renew a driving license that has not expired for more than a year, of course one is not allowed to drive with this expired driving license. There are currently no driving tests. Since no driving licenses are currently being extended, one will now automatically receive an extension. This should be done as soon as possible again.
If I understand correctly, online training must be done now when your driver's license expires. On http://www.dlt-elearning.com see how to sign up for it. But to be sure, it is better to ask an LTO.

Doctor's statement for 50 baht that was to measure my blood pressure and have not seen a doctor. I renewed my driving license after my birthday because then it is valid for 6 years. Sit in a chair and then see if you are not color blind by saying the color that the traffic light indicates, then the brake test and hoppa extended again.
