Dear readers,

Next year my Thai wife and I will leave Belgium permanently. One problem, for some things we still need an address in Belgium, a domicile address.

Can someone help us with that, even with a small fee?

Thanks for your answer.

Regards,

François

if you are registered at the embassy, you can no longer have a domicile in Belgium¨. Double domicile has been abolished for years.

You can rent a PO box (PO BOX) cheaply at most post offices, or you can ask the post office to forward your mail to Thailand

Of course I don't know what it's like in Belgium, but PO box doesn't count in the Netherlands.
      Postal address/postal address.

If you leave Belgium permanently, you must request a deregistration form from your municipality. Then you have to register at the embassy here.
Why a second address in Belgium?

That is not allowed, in Belgium you can only have a reference address for certain professions that make a permanent residence impossible, such as skippers or fairground people, then you are a resident without a permanent residence. And so you have an address with someone else. However, once you are unsubscribed, this is also over. Yes cannot be registered at 2 addresses

    G'day Francois,

    without your data, it's difficult.
Are you looking for a PO Box address or a domicile address?

Domicile is quite dangerous if not present for more than 3 months

Do you have proof of good behavior and morals that no bailiffs visit me? .

Is it to stay insured cheaply? eg Europ Assistance that offers travel insurance, only with an address in Belgium.

    What compensation do you provide?

    Another series of wrong answers.
A PO box never counts as a place of residence. After all, you can't live in a PO Box. When opening a new PO box, which you can do in any post office that has PO boxes, you must present your identity card and the PO box will be registered at your home address. If you have been deregistered, there will no longer be a home address on your identity card. If you already had a PO box BEFORE deregistration, you can keep it.

Applying for and obtaining a domicile is always accompanied by a visit from the community police officer who must determine whether you actually live there. If you are not present, it will sometimes come back. Afterwards you will be invited to present yourself at the town hall or police station. So it is not that easy to acquire a fake domicile. There are fines if you do not stay at your home address. Those who provide someone with a fake domicile will also receive a hefty fine.

Absence of 3 months: no problem at all, as you only have to report an absence of 6 months to the town hall. If you do not do so, you will be officially deleted from the population register of your place of residence, which can have unpleasant consequences.

In the event of an absence of 1 year, you are OBLIGATE to deregister. You will then receive a 'model 8' form with which you CAN register at the embassy of your new country of residence. This registration at the embassy is NOT mandatory, but it does have consequences if you do not do so, as you cannot rely on their services such as: applying for a new passport or identity card.

    So I'd rather not start.

It is true that you cannot have two domiciles in Belgenland, only a second place of residence, but then the main residence is the domicile.

      Nowadays everything is registered!
Every customs passage gives a registration.
Also your phone or e.g. FB
If the government does not trust something, they will quickly know where you are.

'Every customs passage gives a registration'. Where do you get that nonsense from?

      @Lung addie

Very very small correction, you can be absent for a maximum of 1 year provided you declare "temporary absence", 1 year is only allowed for 1 year + 1 day no longer in Belgium.

When I made use of that, you didn't even have to report your return (?) was the answer from the municipal employee to my question: “Mr. you know when you'll be back (?!)” .

You can now report absence and return online via an internet account, although this is the case in Antwerp!

      • Lung addie says up

        Dear David,
that's what I wrote: 6 months absence: obligation to report. You don't have to do anything for less than 6 months.
        1 year absence: deregistration obligation.
        What needs to be corrected?

and @Cornelis: some people quite often confuse customs with the border police (iimmigration)… that is the same for all of them.

If you deregister in Belgium and register at the Belgian embassy, do you still enjoy all rights in Belgium such as health insurance, etc.?
