Dear readers,

Search my Thailand blog emails all over for an explanation of the procedure for Thai married persons to enter Thailand.
I know you have to quarantine for 14 days on arrival, but do I have to take a flight designated by the embassy?

I am married to a Thai. She has been back in Thailand for a long time because of her mother's illness.

So is the entire procedure organized by the embassy? Do I need a Corona test before the flight? Does anyone know the whole procedure?
Thanks for any clarification.

Regards,

Leo

Dear Leo, isn't it all that difficult to figure out what to do? Thailandblog has been publishing about the possibilities all summer! Plus that the website of the Thai Embassy in The Hague provides all information: https://hague.thaiembassy.org/th/page/thailand-covid-19?menu=5f4cc50a4f523722e8027442
The whole procedure you ask for is explained step by step. There is no other procedure. Basically, the current state of affairs is that it can be arranged through the embassy that Dutch men can return to their Thai wives if both have their domicile in Thailand. In other words: if Thailand knows that you are married to a Thai woman and you live in Thailand, there is nothing to prevent you from applying for a Certificate of Entry at the Thai Embassy.

However, you do not make it clear in your question whether a Thai living/living situation is appropriate for you. If you actually live/live in the Netherlands, and your Thai wife is responsible for caring for her mother, and you want to visit her/them, then you are actually going as a tourist. It may be clear that Thailand does not allow tourism yet. This is also made clear on the website. In that case, you have no choice but to wait until conditions in Thailand have normalized.

Dear Rianne, leave the details to Ronny, I think. Where, for example, does it say that it only concerns men and not women who want to return to their husbands in Thailand. Or take the domicile, which is also not mentioned anywhere and you cause confusion due to incorrect messages about the living situation. Limit yourself to what is written in the official texts. This is stated on the site of the Thai embassy: “Non-Thai Spouse, Parents or Children of a Thai Citizen”.

Your whole 2nd paragraph is wrong and I suspect it's your own idea. Why wouldn't you be able to have 2 places of residence, for example, many live alternately in Thailand or the Netherlands. Do not tell rules that are not there and limit yourself to what is officially stated. If you follow your wife or husband or travel back together because you form a household together, this can be a good reason to ask permission and has nothing to do with tourism.

Dear Leo, I really don't want to be annoying, but this topic (with in my opinion very good explanation by people who have already done this and are now back with their families in Thailand) has already been reviewed several times on Thailandblog. I would say take advantage of this and read especially the latest Thailand blogs again.

    The Best

I have just gone through the entire procedure and am ending my 15 day Quarantine this Sunday morning Sept 13, 2020 so I think I can give you a true representation of the progress!
You go to the Embassy, apply for your Visa and ask to go to Thailand to your wife! You need , Marriage certificate int , copy Passport of both , health certificate and statement that you will first go into Quarantine in Thailand for 15 days upon arrival , health insurance that covers 100000 dollars and which also states that it covers COVID19, and a booking of a of the proposed Quarantine Hotels ! Then the Embassy will request your document ENTRY to Thailand and look for a repatriation flight, which you have to pay yourself! This is a one way flight, no return included! Before you can ON THE PLANE, you must have booking hotel, Fit to Fly and Covid test taken at the doctor max 72 hours before the flight, Insurance, visa, document to Entry Thailand marriage certificate! It is best to copy this entire package a few times because you need it a lot, also on arrival in Bangkok at the airport, where you will be transferred to your hotel after long checks, where you will have a fever twice a day, so covid test every week 2 x and if everything is ok after being in your room for 2 days, you are a FREE MAN!!

Although the editors of Thailandblog itself regularly publish reliable and up-to-date messages about the admission of certain groups in Thailand, you will only receive different options at your request from the readers.
Often so different, that in reading these councils you still don't know which ones are actually true, or which are based on half-knowing and fantasy.
Simply at the Thai Embassy, where you have to go for your visa anyway, is the surest method to complete this procedure.

It is not clear to me which different options you read in the 3 comments preceding yours, but all 3 say that contacting the Thai Embassy in The Hague is the only option.

Dear Rianne, my response has nothing to do with the 3 previous responses, but much more with the fact that you can expect all kinds of responders to such questions, who try to answer the questioner with their own opinions or half-knowledge.
To get a clear answer, these are actually questions that you can ask at most to 1 expert person or to the relevant Thai Embassy.
This is also the reason why when it comes to visa or medical questions, expertly handled by Ronny and Dr. Maarten be answered, excluding other responses.
If the editors did not do this, there is a possibility that the questioner will no longer see the trees for the wood due to the amount of responses.

      Very true John!
3 days ago I post here a piece of which document is requested by the Thai embassy, to translate, with 2 options. International proof (NL-English) or original marriage certificate?
      Seems clear to me.
However, whole stories about the procedure (which I have of course looked up myself for a long time) and had no answer to my question!
Communication and/or reading seems to be difficult for many. 😉

Just got an email back from the embassy that you can now book your own flight with the Emirates and yes the embassy in The Hague is very clear about how and what you need.

    Dear Leo,

You can obtain permission through the embassy to travel to your wife/family in Thailand under conditions determined by Thai legislation. -The embassy will help you with this.

As a legally married person you do not go to Thailand as a tourist whether you officially live in Thailand or elsewhere with your wife, you are and remain a spouse married to a Thai national for Thai law and those regulations apply.

Necessary documents, a flight to Thailand and currently still 14 days of quarantine on arrival are the requirements imposed.

    Greetings
    Guy

What Leo says matches what I heard through the Thai embassy in Belgium. My wife works and lives here in Belgium. I myself can go there without my wife going with me (she works here and I would like to build a house in Khon-kaen). Apparently the rules are not for everyone, and that includes me, even for those who feel they have to correct others.
