Home » Reader question » Reader question: Transferring money to Thailand for food due to the corona crisis
Dear readers,
I'll be honest I'm not in favor of transferring money to Thailand if I don't know where it ends up. I'm also not that powerful, I'll just say, I've already been cheated once (not for a lot of money but in love). In this situation with the corona virus, I might want to transfer something (not to a lover) but to someone for food.
As far as I know, the country has not yet been hit so hard, but the measures are already huge. I'm afraid the stunner is yet to get there. Although I don't understand that because in the past there were a lot of tourists from China.
Question 1: Are they fair with the numbers?
Question 2: Is there something from Tikkie or something there so that you can transfer money faster than via the bank?
Regards,
French
Question 1 : No
Question 2 : Transferwise
Transfer money safely, cheaply and quickly via Transferwise!
Pay pal, works fine and the costs are low, the money is in the account very quickly in Thailand,,
The fees are low from Paypal???? Transferwise is a lot cheaper.
hey french,
Thank you for being so compassionate during these times,
I am also not at all into transferring the money and is normally not necessary since my girlfriend earns enough herself, unfortunately she has also become unemployed due to this crisis and because she comes from Laos there is no one to look after her.
I myself use transferwise, very easy and fast
Greetings,
Diego

We remain Dutch and often look for the lowest costs when transferring.
But suppose. You transfer 200 euros. So who cares if it costs 200 / 195 or 208 euros.
Simply bank to bank ING (2 working days)
Or Western Union, Directly. Do they have to pick it up in Thailand themselves. Small effort.
No, luckily I don't have to send anything myself.
You can also transfer money to a bank via Western Union .., then it will simply be transferred to the bank account.
With regards
If I were to transfer 200 Euros and that would actually only cost me 195 Euros, that would matter to me….
Ordinary sofa is terribly expensive and takes longer.
Transferwise is fast and saves on course and commission at 200 euros, about 25 euros, I think
I transferred 100 euros last week with transferwise, cost 2,50 euros. Transferred at 21.00, and was on the Thai account 5 hours later, so at 02.00 in the morning. Half an hour later already taken from the bank by a friend in need of money. How fast do you want it?
Dear Bertus, I transfer money to my son in Bangkok where he lives and (still) works for half a wage. I use the ING bank where I deposit money in the morning and receive it early the next day on my Bangkok Bank account in Sattahip in baht. Costs Euro 6- at ING and Baht 200- at Bangkok Bank.
I can help you with some addresses, with bank details, of Thai people who are hungry and can use it well and where every baht is welcome… females with small children now without any income and who are left out of the 5000 Baht scheme because they never paid taxes… if you are interested in supporting these people directly you can contact me

I was also asked for money by several ladies, because they are now without work / income. I have transferred money through Western Union three times and ..it feels good to be able to help acquaintances during this difficult time!.
People who are familiar there know how much support is needed right now.
Help if you can!.
I live in Thailand and have income in the Netherlands through online work. Transfer it weekly with transferwise and it will be on my account in Thailand within an hour. Works perfectly and cheap and good price.
Via Western Union App, costs 2,9 €, if the recipient uses the same App, there is already a few hours.
I transferred something through Azimo. works fine for a bank account.
also paypal is a good way. costs an average of 3 to 4% in costs.
there are also western union and multiple cash transfers possible, but usually higher costs.
success
the answer to question one is clearly no, the figures are tampered with in every possible way to keep them as low as possible. if you make testing so expensive that every thai can hardly afford it, then you really influence the real figures . Chiang mai was the gateway for the vast majority of Chinese holidaymakers and almost no infections, so that is really not realistic. The thousands of Thais who returned home from Korea (at that time the second largest source of infection after China) returned home without control, read all over Thailand. Infection figures about Isaan are non-existent and we can continue for a while. The government knows it, which is why the harsh measures are taken, but will never release the actual figures.
I sometimes wonder how outsiders know whether or not the figures are correct here in Thailand.
I live here permanently with my Thai spouse in Lamphun province and close to Chiangmai have not heard anything in the immediate vicinity of any case of infection or death from Corona.
In addition, a neighbor of mine works in the ICU at Lamphun state hospital.
And trust me any rumor and tam tam goes fast here.
Jan Beute.
I would like to mention that I am not an outsider, but I stay in Chiang Mai for 3 months a year and am married to a Thai. We left chiang mai earlier this year (with the last Thai Airways flight on March 31) and are both covid patients who are not included in the statistics. And so there are many. I have enough medical background myself to be able to assess the situation. And I can guarantee you that the fanfare does not work, rather the other way around in this case, if one is infected, this is tried to be covered up.
Then why do you travel if you know you are a COVID patient?…
RonnyLatYa: once you have had the covid 19 disease and have recovered, you are no longer contagious and you have a certain degree of immunity (not 100%). You are therefore no longer a Covid patient and can and may travel.
Yes I know.
But how do you know both of you were COVID patients.
That is only possible if you have been tested and if that happens then I think you are included in the statistics.
RonnyLatYa: As I mentioned before, I have a medical background and therefore know with great certainty that we have been infected with Covid 19. Even in Europe, testing is not done unless really necessary. everyone knows that even in Europe where testing is done if necessary, 80 to 90% of people do not end up in the statistics, due to not being sick enough and recovering at home. I estimate that in Thailand this is at least 95% to 99%, the system of general practitioners who provide a first triage does not exist in Thailand, which is why only the very serious cases end up in hospital in Thailand and many do not even get there which is why so many remain under the radar and the numbers are so low. And of course the government likes to keep the numbers low.
My wife and I have also been sick at the beginning of the year…. Flu Symptoms . Corona or not? Who knows when in January/February….
We went here to LatYa's first aid post, as everyone who needs medical attention does.
That is not a clinic or a private practice of a doctor who does this after hours, but a general practitioner where a dentist is also located. Depends on the larger military and state hospital of Kanchanaburi.
They provide first-line help and also provide an initial triage. I also go when my blood needs to be checked. According to my information, they also come to your home if you are too sick to move…
I certainly agree that not everyone ends up in the statistics, but then you shouldn't criticize Thailand if you say that Europe does exactly the same.
But to measure is to know…. and everything that is measured ends up in statistics. Also in Thailand
The suspicions do not end up in statistics, but apparently there is no "normal" flu this year and everything is placed under Corona. That's the simplest.
By the way, if I can believe the daily press conference of virologist Van Gucht (and why not), Belgium is also about the only country that makes a distinction between hospital deaths, residential care deaths and deaths at home. That's why those numbers are so high. Only the hospital deaths are the Corona certain. The others are also “conjectures”.
Even there, people in Europe are not on the same page….
Dear Herman, then you haven't read the latest news from South Korea today, where the virus has returned in cured Covid patients.
And believe me should anyone die from Covid 19 here near me, the news will spread like a burning steppe fire on the spot.
Jan Beute.
janbeute, ever heard of PUI (persons under investigation)? There are many thousands of them and not yet tested. Not tested is not sick.
Transferwise. Good rate and much cheaper than western union. Very quickly in her bank account
This morning a friend of mine from Kalasin told me that 3 Thai people died from the Corona Virus and that 3 others are in the Hospital in Kamalasai (Kalasin)
greetings, Sabaai-sabaai
Now that's what I call reliable information...
and how many deaths have they reported for all of thailand? 2 ?
And how many should there be?
And where do they hide all those sick and dead?
I don't see Spanish or Italian situations in any hospital.
They are simply buried after death without ever ending up in the statistics, that was just my point of view. If you could compare the deaths in Thailand from February or March this year to those of last year, you would get a completely different picture there I am convinced. And the fact that they do not end up in hospital en masse has to do with the fact that the prices for corona tests are unaffordable for the global Thai. If there is no problem, then I do not understand why there is a lockdown?
Do you really think that this would not be noticed or that they have no family?
And I don't think they burn those buried in Thailand
But maybe you're right and that's where the air pollution comes from instead of burning down the fields
In a comparable metropolis like New York, they don't know where to stay with bodies, but in Bangkok they disappear without you noticing anything….
That lockdown is just to avoid Spanish, Italian and American situations.
Just what countries that have denied it and waited too long should have done better in the past. By the way, it's not a real lockdown. I can still just walk around here during the day.
But never mind….
But perhaps the problem is deeper and many are concerned that Thailand is doing better than many of those self-proclaimed superior countries and its inhabitants.
Whatever the cause may be…
And rest assured. The rose-colored glasses you like to come off with when someone dares to say something positive about Thailand, I already took off 25 years ago.
By the way, I never said there is no Corona in Thailand. Only that if it were in the same amount as in similar cities like New York, London, etc as you claim, you would certainly notice it in Bangkok and other cities as well.
It's not about 50 dead anymore.....
Thailand was one of the first countries to come into contact with the corona virus due to the massive Chinese tourists who entered Thailand via Chiang mai (corona was on the rise there at the time), but miraculously no reports of corona cases in Chiang mai. A month later thousands of Thais come back from Korea (at that time the 2nd worst infected region) without significant control who spread across Thailand (everyone went home) and a second miracle happened, no increase in the number of corona cases. At the time, the government's fable was still circulating that the heat would stop corona, strange but true, it got warmer and people gradually started to receive reports about corona cases:) Buddha takes good care of Thailand, let's think. The government does nothing but sweep it under the carpet.
If it's for a good cause: Father Ray foundation. This has been taking care of children left alone for years. Located on the Sukhumvit in Pattaya.
Personal and bar and restaurant owners support an initiative in Jomtien Complex in Jomtien (near Pattaya). Every day 150 foam packages with food and water are distributed. Sponsored by these owners. Daily cost 5,000 baht. If you want to contribute to this, please contact me. [email protected]
I have a Dutch bank account so NOTHING remains on the bow. Thank you in advance.
