Dear readers,

I need advice about the internet provider. I now have TOT and am dissatisfied with the expertise and service. The internet connection is also regularly broken. Downloading torrents and nzb's goes well, speeds up to 6mb/sec. This is not the real problem.

I have a fast computer and 2 smart TVs. Everything connected to my wired LAN network in the house. I also work with a NORDVPN to circumvent geo-restrictions. But when I log in to stream with Eurosport or Netflix, both the computer and the smart TVs buffer after a short time and never come out. After a short while I get the message that the connection to the host has been lost.

I blame that on the connection of TOT. I am considering switching to 3BB, apparently with higher speeds. Before I do, I'd like some advice, particularly on streaming experiences.

Regards,

Glass

I recognize your problem, had the same with both TOT and AIS, eventually switched to 3BB and that is really a relief, good fast internet and if there are any problems, an English-speaking and very important expert helpdesk!! I would say don't hesitate and move on

    hi Klaus,
I have also had TOT as a provider and have often been annoyed by the incompetence of the technicians and the connection.
Switched to 3bb and that was/is a big improvement.
    I now have 400/400 mBit
When it comes to technical matters such as streaming and the internet connection outside Thailand, the gentlemen technicians often don't know what to do either.
I have no problem streaming via the PC.
With a tablet, the image sometimes falters.
May also depend on some technical aspects of the PC and or other connected equipment
Other than that I am very satisfied.

Hi, I have a 3bb and I am very satisfied with it, I also watch sports and it never buffers, fortunately I give it 100/100 and pay 699 baht, but I am satisfied and I also watch on multiple TV at the same time. S6 with it, kind regards, Harry

    Hi Harry

take a look at the website of 3BB. Just switched from 700/700 price Thb 1284 to 1000/100 price Thb 632. This because I download but not upload. New annual contract signed.

If you pay annually, you pay for 11 months.

Keep in mind that if you work via a VPN, this may affect the speed of your connection. For example, if you select a distant location, such as the Netherlands, it may be that a stream simply cannot be downloaded fast enough. HD streams in particular will suffer from this. Selecting a VPN server in a remote location can slow down the streaming speed by as much as 50-70%.

The easiest way to test this is to do a 'speed test' with and without a VPN (for example via speedtest.net). If there are major differences between these, switching providers will be of little use (unless you simply want a higher bandwidth/speed, which is always better).

I'm not saying that this is all the case with you, but it can't hurt to test this in a few minutes via a speed test.

I see that you and no one else are talking about your router. This is an important part of your internet and most routers that you get from your service provider are not the very best. I would look into that before you immediately switch to another service provider.

Then I would look at a router that can provide 2,4 Ghz and 5 Ghz connections. Most devices run via a 2,4 Ghz connection. This one is slightly stronger, but the better connection is the 5 Ghz. Now you write that you have everything running via cable, so it is not very important. However, your tablet and smartphone will benefit from it.

Another problem that comes into play when switching is that you usually have a one-year contract and there is no way around that. Even if you have a different provider, you will have to pay the current contract until the end of the term.

      dear scarf,
the router can be one of the problems, but finding a good technician who can transfer the settings of the 3bb router to a Fritzbox, for example, is a completely different story.
In any case, the technicians of most Thai providers have not eaten any cheese.
But maybe you know someone who can.

      • Jack S says up

You don't have to look for a good technician who has to convert the settings of a 3bb router to a Fritzbox or whatever.
That's not a big problem. I can do that too, would Klaas live near Hua Hin. And I'm definitely not a router prodigy.

You will just have to look for a good router. The following article may help. I don't have the best router myself, but I do have one that works fine for me.
Because I stream a lot within my own network (for example, I have Plex, which allows me to wirelessly stream all my films and series to almost all devices inside and outside my home) and also have an Oculus Quest (VR), which requires a good router, I know what difference it makes. Especially by the latter. I'm in a Facebook group that deals with the Oculus Quest. This concerns games that are played via the PC, wirelessly with a special program to the Quest. What is very important is the latency, which is the speed between the two devices that must be so high that you hardly notice a difference between your reactions and those of the game. I have often read that people had problems with this and often the router was the weak link.
Finding which router is the best or running a test program on the existing router is easy. You can do everything over the internet. So that should be checked first. Next page may be useful. There is more explanation: http://www.internetsnelheid-testen.nl/internetsnelheid-verbeteren-wifi-routertips/

Connecting a new router is a piece of cake. All you need is your username and password. The rest follows more or less automatically, especially when you have connected most devices with a cable, because you don't have to do anything there.
But here too there are web pages that can help you with specific “problems”:
        https://www.allesoverdraadloosinternet.nl/draadloos-installeren/router-instellen/

      • Jack S says up

I made a mistake in my zeal. It should say: the latency should be as low, not as high. Almost the same thing, but the lower the latency, the faster the signals flow from one device to the other.

        • KhunTak says up

          thanks Jack,
I still have a Fritzbox laying around.
          Delivered 2 years ago.
A so-called expert told me it was very simple.
He spent a whole day with it, but it didn't work.
Ultimately, it was the router, he told me.
          I do not believe that.
But I was pretty faint about it. All the more so because I had specially ordered a router for it.
I'll look into it myself and follow your link.
          I wired almost everything.
          I'll give you the result.

Everyone gives advice but no one knows where you live, seems very important to me when it comes to the internet.

Indeed Jan. We live in the city of Chon Buri and have had internet from TOT for 12 Thb for 750 years, super fast and perfect internet via the fiber optic cable 250/200. I think that in the past year we have been without internet for a few hours due to a malfunction. For us, all praise for TOT. Yes, unfortunately I cannot say much about the service because we have not had a problem for about 2 years. the only thing they have been here for was the free replacement of the routers with 5 and 2.4 Ghz and that went perfectly.
Well 100 opinions and then 100 different opinions of course.

I have had several internet providers in Thailand. Now I use 3BB. Fine. But I stream from my smart phone or tablet with a Google Chrome cast. I skip the features of my provider and smart TV. Too much hassle. Google Chrome Cast is a small device that you can buy at the media market in the Netherlands for about €40. You need to connect the Chrome Cast to your TV on an available HDMI connection (most TVs have 2 or 3 connections). The device has its own electrical power supply. Then set it up with the Google app. NB. The phone, tablet, chrome cast and TV must all use the same internet provider. Have been using this system for 3 years with no problems. Stream Netflix, YouTube, Nlziet. Everything I can see on my tablet, I also see on my TV.
The device is round and flat, and has a diameter of about 7 cm. I glued it to the TV with a piece of akband. It cannot be seen.
By the way, it is also for sale in Thailand.

    Hallo,

Well, I have AIS fiber…and it is not available everywhere…but it is very good. Ask them if you have coverage, is my advice. I have a fixed (fixed/dedicated) IP address, and then it is a bit (considerably) more expensive. I pay 1000 baht per month, but otherwise I am not allowed to access certain servers in NL, they want to know my IP address ... so a fixed IP address. Very good. Not the cheapest. I would check with you, with them. customer service fine.

And I can say that because I studied computer science and telecom.
    I https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ringing_tone rolled out worldwide.
I hope this is of some use to you,

    Good luck,

    Oeang Eng

have your connectors renewed on your cables. those hand-squeezed connectors often cause contact problems! I also once had a very low speed on my fiber system 500/500 mbps and on a sub modem/router there was a pinched cable that caused this problem! just buy a long cable with connectors on it and bypass your installed cable and see if that problem still exists... I've had 10BB for 3 years and never had any problems. I often have 50 people logged on to WiFi at the same time and 9 apartments that also use that system via sub-modems and everyone is completely satisfied. also, for example, online teachers who are video chatting all day. praise for 3BB

Here in Chiang Mai I have had 3BB for 3 months to my complete satisfaction. Price 750 baht. In the other side of the house my family has TOT and my experience says that internet used to go down a lot which is not the case with 3BB.
      Praise for 3BB indeed.

Ask around in Ubon. I live in Bangkok and use True and am very satisfied, but of course it varies from place to place. Good luck.
