Dear readers,

I am thinking of going to Phuket as soon as the weather is possible for about 3 weeks. My question is, can you travel directly from Bangkok to Phuket and quarantine there (hopefully only 1 week or less) or do you have to quarantine in Bangkok first?

Regards,

You can only quarantine in Phuket if you arrive there with a flight directly from a foreign airport. In all other cases you must first be quarantined in Bangkok (or Pattaya) before you can travel on to Phuket.

International flying to Phuket is not possible so far. Quarantine on arrival with a flight to Bangkok is only possible in Bangkok.

Yes goes into quarantine where you arrive. If you were allowed to fly domestic for a while before you do the quarantine, then that could just as well be omitted, because then the damage has already been done.

If you fly straight to Phuket via a short stopover at Suvarnabumi, it shouldn't matter anyway. You've been tested anyway. At least I hope so. We fly back to Phuket via Zurich and Bangkok.

You must be quarantined where you enter the country.

Short transport overland in a car / minivan organized by the quarantine to, for example, Pattaya to go into quarantine there is allowed. That journey is then 100% checked and without intermediate stops. If you were allowed to take another domestic flight, they would no longer be able to control the movements and people could evade quarantine by mixing with other travelers. By imposing quarantine at the airport of entry, they can accommodate 100% of arriving travelers.

If you want to be quarantined in Phuket, you have to fly to Phuket. At the moment there are limited options, including via Silk Air with a transfer in Singapore. Arriving in Phuket by (private) yacht is also an option for the wealthy tourist.

We already have the tickets and we live in Phuket, not tourists. Maybe I can reschedule the tickets Bangkok – Phuket separately, are now in the return journey and otherwise new tickets are also the biggest costs.

Not possible unfortunately. To go into quarantine in Phuket after arrival you will have to arrive directly in Phuket via eg Singapore. If you arrive in BKK then in BKK in Quarentiane or Pattaya. These are the only options. Good luck.

I would wait a bit, there are a number of moves that they will bring the quarantine to 7 days and even 3 days in the future, but better a direct flight to Pucket. If you become + during the quarantine, then it is bad luck and misery.

I guess it doesn't matter where you are quarantined. Be it BKK, Pattaya or Phuket. You are "trapped". It only matters if you have friends in Phuket, for example, who want to bring the things you need to the hotel.

Dear,,, a comrade of mine is currently with his wife in Khon Kaen,, like almost everyone else, landed on Suvarnabhumi.
The buses are waiting there and they will immediately take you to a hotel of their choice, by them I of course mean Thailand,,, for 15 days!!!
You don't even get to see your wife or girlfriend and all costs are yours!!!
The only thing positive about it is that if you travel without a visa, you can now stay for 45 days instead of 30 days.
    Good luck and grtj.

Thailand does not choose a quarantine hotel for you, you do that yourself.
Only repatriating Thais can opt for – free – state quarantine and then indeed have to wait and see where they will be accommodated.

If you enter Bangkok and you stay in transfer for your connecting flight to Phuket, you will not enter the country and you can quarantine in Phuket for 1 week

    • Cornelis says up

No, that's not right. If your transfer in Bangkok means a transfer to a domestic flight, you will go through Immigration there and you will therefore enter the country. The requirement for quarantine in Phuket is that you arrive there on a flight that departed from a foreign airport.

……and where do you get that week from, by the way?
