Home » Reader question » Reader question: Do they make things difficult in Thailand if my visa is exceeded?
Hello
Just a reader question please.
Have booked from November 2, 2013 to March 4, 2014. So now I arrive in Thailand on November 3. If I calculate it like this, 2 entries will take me 1 day over my visa days. Costs 1000 bath pp
Do they make it very difficult on departure if I immediately pay the 2000 bath or is it better to stay a day longer outside Thailand on one of the visa trips?
By the way, have booked with Etihad for a total of € 1.304 for those who want to know!
Greetings ,
Arie
So you arrive 62 days between arrival and departure and you have 60 available visa days.
So you will have to go outside on January 1 at the latest if I'm counting correctly.
A special day isn't it? Keep that in mind with your visa run.
Or you can actually stay a little longer if possible,
or you request an extension of 30 days on one of the entries.
You can normally extend a TR by 30 days without much problem.
Please note that you activate your second entry before the validity period of your visa has expired.
I don't remember what the validity period of a TR visa is, 3 or 6 months, but you can check that on your visa. It's written somewhere. So don't apply for your visa too quickly.
In any case, try to avoid an overstay.
Normally they will not make a big problem of a day, I suspect, but you will only experience something during that day overstay.
Lots of fun.
Just an addition.
Personally, I would make my visa run sometime in mid-December.
(I do want to emphasize the validity period of your visa again because that is very important. The 2nd entry must be done before the validity period has expired or you have a bigger problem.)
It doesn't really matter on which date exactly, when it suits you best, but this way you will be ahead of the holidays and you will be fine again for 60 days.
When they expire, sometime in mid-February this will be, you request an extension for 30 days and then everything is fine.
Will cost you something like 1400 Bath per person I think.
I guess because I don't know the current prices anymore.
Others who are aware of this can inform you better about this.
Counting on a visa run on January 1 is dangerous and the edges are cut.
By the way, I wonder if they actually perform it on that date or even during the holidays.
If so, take a closer look at the condition of the driver.
But it's just how I would approach it, of course you decide for yourself.
Thanks for the tip, I hadn't thought of it at all. Where should you apply for that extension?
You can do this at any Immigration Office. You can also obtain all the papers there and have any copies made. They are equipped for that. Don't forget passport photos. Or you can already download them from the internet.
http://www.immigration.go.th/
I recently had one day overstay and I was not charged for this , so you have a day to spare .
They didn't bother me about this a while ago. I was also a day or two late. Didn't even have to pay anything
Is there anyone who has ever been left over in the other country on such an “entry day”? Not sure where those entry buses go! It would also be possible to stay two days and the visa you apply for applies to the period you specify. You mention that period in the paper, which you can download and then send to Amsterdam.
Thank you very much for your responses by the way.
Maybe something has changed in that area, but what I seem to remember is that with a TR visa you had to be careful with the validity period. Especially with the “Double Entry”.
The validity of the TR visa started on the day of issue and was then valid for 3 or 6 months.
The period of residence you entered was not taken into account.
By the way, the visa you apply for must not cover the period of stay, but must cover the day of entry. With a Double entry also the second entry of course. Once inside and used, a “used” stamp is added. This is possible until the last day of the validity period.
By the way, that warning regarding the validity period could be read at the consulate in Antwerp (I don't know if this is still the case).
You could ask the Consulate not to process the application for the time being until the validity covers the period of entry.
Some people just applied for their visa too early.
If it's not the case anymore, so much the better. but i'd check it out anyway.
Here is a piece of text regarding the validity period of a visa –
I got this from the internet site of the Consulate in Antwerp.
I will also immediately send the link to the consulate. There is some useful information about visas.
“An ordinary visa has a validity period of 3 months. In other words: this is the validity period to enter Thailand.
For a visa application from 2 entries, the date of arrival in Thailand should be taken into account. If it is still a long way off, the applicant can decide to simply keep the passport aside at the consulate and grant the visa at a later date. There is also the possibility to extend the “validity” of the visa by one month.”

Immigrate office costs for a 30 day extension are 1900 bath and it is not wise to have an overstay, this is also registered with the embassies and the next time you need a visa again, they will want a written statement for this, and you are punishable, they can even lock you up for this, although that will not happen quickly, you are staying in the country illegally and it is extremely rare that you will not receive a fine of 500 bath per day per person. My advice is that if you have used up all your re-entries, you can add another 30 days to them by going in and out of the country or going to an immigration office.
I have never heard of that written statement. I once had an overstay of 50 days and after paying for it, I received a new visa a few days later without any problems or questions from the embassy, this was a long time ago. More recently I also paid a few days overstay on the way to the embassy in KL and again received a visa without any problems and no questions asked.
Then you can be very happy. With my next visa application I was allowed to provide a written statement stating the reason for my overstay. There were no further details as to why this could have been asked, I suspect that random samples are taken, but this does not alter the fact that this can happen and that it is punishable!
Hello.
We went to the immigration office after half a year in Thailand, a day late with the visa, and were asked what to do, just advice through customs, we had no problem with that. if so you just have to pay, but that's not much for 1 day, suc6
This is what is stated on the embassy's website and this is correct, of course you can easily think about it, but that is everyone's own responsibility:
If your visa for Thailand expires during your stay in Thailand, this is a criminal offense under Thai law. Any visa-required visitor who does not have a valid Thai visa may be arrested by Thai immigration authorities. Upon entry, your personal data will be registered, including a photo. When you leave, your entry details are known to the immigration authorities. Even though it is possible to pay a fine if your Thai visa has expired, this does not change the fact that you are staying in Thailand illegally and this is a criminal offense for which you can be arrested. The fine for illegal stay is THB 500 per day with a maximum of THB 20.000.
If you are arrested and cannot pay the fine, you must first serve an alternative prison sentence and then you will be taken to the Immigration Detention Center (IDC) in Bangkok where the living conditions are appalling, worse than in regular prisons. As long as you cannot pay the fine and show a ticket to the Netherlands, you will not be deported from the IDC. It happens that people in detention in the IDC have to wait many months, if not years, for family or friends to transfer the necessary money for the fine and the ticket. The embassy may not provide financial assistance to pay for fines and travel and can only assist in passing on information to the DCM/CA department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which coordinates contacting family or friends who will receive the necessary money. have to transfer. If you pay the fine for your illegal stay and have a ticket home, you will be deported. This means that you will be escorted in handcuffs to the gate at the airport by the Thai immigration authorities.

In any case, I don't think it's a good idea to advise people otherwise unless you take the responsibility ……….
Monica,
Totally agree.
Even if you have "positive" experiences with overstay, consider this a windfall.
The right to decide on this is not in your hands, and it could be completely different with another immigration officer.
Overstay is not allowed, is punishable by law and MAY cause you problems in the future for obtaining a new visa period.
Hi Ari
Which airline do you fly with and what is included for that 1304 euros.
I like to hear from you.
Best regards,
Lydia
As stated in my first post, with Etihad. This is a new company that will fly to Schiphol from May 15. The price is for 2 people return, all inclusive. I heard they have 9 cheaper seats on every flight. You fly over Abu Dhabi, where you have a layover of 2-3 hours. They fly with Boeing 777s and Airbuses, especially the latter are very luxurious with spacious seats. We choose this company because of the larger seats. You can also indicate in advance what you want to eat, I believe there are about 8 options. And of course the price is nice.
You could go to Vientiane for a few days, visa Laos 1500 baht pp (but you will lose that anyway if you leave the country to Laos for the 2nd entrance.)
I think it's a good idea to go to Mae Sai in the north and back and forth over the bridge to Burma. I think Burma visa costs are 500 baht and Mae Sai is a very nice place with a lot of stuff on the international market and a lot of tribal population.
or extend 1st entrance for thirty days for 1900 baht
indeed arrange 2nd entrance before visa stamp expires.
Why make it so difficult, just go to the Thai embassy in The Hague in the Netherlands or to the Thai consulate in Amsterdam, you will receive a 60-day visa without any problems (normally arranged within 1 week), so advice is to wait within 1,5 months to go here before leaving.
If you do not want to have problems with overstay, go to the tourist police with your ticket at the end of your visa and request an extension for 1900 bath for 2 days (you will only receive an extension up to your ticket date).
Is that so?, I was not asked for my ticket last week and how do they do that with an open ticket?
He's already going for a double entry.
Besides, what could he do with 60 days if he goes for 4 months?
You will not be asked for your ticket with an extension.
Has nothing to do with it.
You automatically get 30 days.
You extend your visa at the immigration office and not at the tourist police, there are really 2 separate authorities. In Thailand, the rules are never really black and white, but there is a very large gray area.
My departure date was, as in your case, one day late (22/04/2013). Normally you pay 500 bht per day per person extra. The immigration officer on duty called a customs officer and he scribbled a note on my visa, I already had the 500 BHT in my hand but I could just walk through without paying anything. If it takes several days you are DEFINITELY screwed and you can go back to the ATM in the departure hall to withdraw the necessary cash.
