Reader question: Tax already paid but still a reminder
Dear readers,
Has the tax authorities perhaps suffered a Corona hit? What am I supposed to do with this now?
I have been living in Thailand for 15 years, always filed my tax returns on time and paid on time. Today I got this in the mail.
Most people report on time. We will then inform them quickly about the amount they will receive or have to pay. Unfortunately, our data shows that you still have to file a tax return for income tax/national insurance contributions and the income-related contribution to the Healthcare Insurance Act for 2019.
You had to file a tax return before 1 July 2020. You have not done this yet. You may have been unable to file a tax return or your tax return has not reached us.
I have already received and paid the final assessment for 2019-01-07 for 2020. Not sure whether to call them or do anything, because I already have all their papers. With proof that I have already done it and proof of the final assessment.
Regards,
Hans
To watch out. . Pishing! Happened to me too. Don't respond... throw it away
Gr Adrian
Adri, this Hans wrote that the attack was received by post in Thailand, so not by email, there are a lot of pishing messages. This week from my bank and my credit card. And if you're not familiar with it, just call us via Skype and you'll know right away.
In your case I would telephone the tax authorities (abroad) and indicate that if necessary you could scan the proof of assessment and the amount already paid and send this via e-mail.
You will then be assigned a one-off e-mail address limited to this incident, where you can send the evidence.
But maybe a phone call with the relevant service is enough.
The mail is real
Could be Adrian. Nowadays you only see companies communicating through their own website.
So is the tax office. You will receive an email with a reference to your account in “my government” or “My Tax Authorities”.
Direct emails with the content will no longer be sent to your mailbox.
Assuming that Hans also arranges matters through “my government”, “my tax authorities”.
Such errors occur regularly. Not entirely incomprehensible when more than 8 million declarations are submitted. I advise you not to respond. Only if you are threatened with a fine can you send a copy of the assessment to the tax authorities as proof that you have already submitted that return.
Have a good look.
It's from the Central Administration Processes.
Attribute FHR 21 and then my social security number.
Also in the well-known blue envelope
Address here in Thailand.
Maybe someone is familiar with the feature
Hans van Mourik
Is what Adri says, my wife even received a phishing email and she doesn't pay any tax in NL at all. I then looked at both our “mijnbelastingdienst.nl” (via DigiD) and nothing was wrong at all.
So don't respond. Check my tax authorities via the internet (DigiD).
I would call the IRS...
PS.
Up to and including 2014 choice package, I opted for domestic duty
From 2015 foreign tax obligation
Hans van Mourik
if, if, if… independently of these papers sent, find the address of the so-called sender (and your contact address may be known to the NLe Belastingdienst) and send them a scan of this paper.
Should another official somewhere “have done something other than your idea of justice”, you have proof of advertising.
Just call, or else wait every day in suspense to see if you have already helped yourself through an administrative maze of all kinds of departments, one of which does not know what the other has done.
I would choose the first.
Hans van Mourik, there is no sanction in the letter and you have submitted both the declaration and the final assessment. I would frame the letter as a rarity and not worry about it. If something like this comes up, call the tax telephone, then there is still plenty of time.
All letters from the government are also listed in mijn.overheid.nl
Everything is in the message box.
A good way to see if something has actually been sent. Often I see it online before I have physically received the letter.
