Dear readers,

What does the embassy mean by legal proof of stay? I have to apply for a new passport. Is this just a copy of the inside of your passport? I also have a yellow booklet from the municipality, but this is of course only in Thai.

Best regards,

Gerrie

The period of stay that you are allowed, as a result of a visa (exemption) or an extension, and which is stated in your passport is a 'legal proof of stay'. You are legally in Thailand during the period stated in your passport.

Yellow booklet is proof of address in Thailand, but of course that does not mean you are legally residing in Thailand.

As a “proof of legal stay” a copy of your passport with your period of stay is probably sufficient. But why not just ask your embassy if it is not clear what they require.
Just a phone or email and done.

This is all about a visa or visa waiver.

You must therefore be able to prove that you are legally resident in Thailand.

When applying for a Dutch passport at the embassy in Thailand, keep in mind that you must be deregistered in the Netherlands.

No, even if you have not been deregistered from the Netherlands, you can simply apply for a new passport at the embassy in bkk.

The Embassy is no longer allowed to issue passports, these are issued in the Netherlands, after application, and handed in at the Embassy in Bangkok. Whether you have to be deregistered in the Netherlands is quite possible. Logically, you live in the Netherlands and you have to apply for your passport there. Logical thinking is, after many years of Thailand, no longer my strong suit. LOL.

An up-to-date yellow booklet and a valid residence visa in your passport together form solid proof of legal stay.

Erik what do you mean by "up to date" yellow booklet (Tambien job) ?????
You only get that thing once .. mine is already 1 years old .. if your address doesn't change it is for 'eternal' or do you have to report every now and then?? Would be news to me
      Please read your response

You are absolutely right Piet, but I couldn't know that your address had always remained the same.

    • RonnyLatPhrao says up

The Tambien job does not say whether or not you legally reside in Thailand.

I responded to a piece of Erik's response regarding the yellow booklet…Erik puts it very clearly in combination with a valid residence visa in the passport and that combination is solid proof of stay

          pete,

Yes, I know, and I want to make it clear that the yellow book has no added value because it does not prove whether or not you are legally residing in Thailand.

You are either legally in the country or not. It's black or white.

You are not more legal in the country because you can also show a yellow tambien job, nor less legal because you don't show it.

It is better not to have passport photos taken in Pattaya, right in front of the ned embassy.

I've never been asked. But this year I'm going again and I'm taking a copy of the retirement stamp (which is simply in the current passport) and the yellow house book. I also bring proof of my citizen service number, letter from the tax authorities or the SVB.

Since I also have to renew my passport this summer, please follow this item.

Requested a new passport at the Dutch embassy in BKK less than 6 weeks ago and received it 1 week later. The only things I had to hand in were the application form and passport photos. Of course I had to show my “old” passport, but I could take it back with me. When the new passport was collected, the old one was destroyed. No hassle with yellow book or something like that, I don't even have that (lived in Thailand for 12 years now in a rented house).
