Dear readers,

My intention is to get legally married in my upcoming 3 month vacation. I have an extract of marital status and my birth certificate. Also have legalized signature of my passport with the corresponding stamp and signature of the municipality.

Now my question is whether I have to have the 2 extracts of marital status and birth legalized in the Netherlands? And if so, at which agency, perhaps Foreign Affairs in The Hague?

Who can tell me about whether or not legalizing it in the Netherlands?

Thanks in advance

Regards,

French

It's a lot of paperwork and takes some time. Eventually, a number of essential documents will also have to be translated (and legalized) into Thai at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bangkok itself.

At the time I had it all arranged through an agency in Bangkok (except for the few things for which you have to appear "in person"). Didn't have the time space for it (staying in Thailand) and know it was a hassle. So opted for the certainty that everything could then be legally registered in the Netherlands again. Because after the marriage on an Amphur, you will have to legalize various documents again and translate them into English to make them valid here in Europe…

I only had my document of marital status translated. Birth was not necessary because you have a passport. I also had the translation done by an agency in Bangkok and had it sent to my address and then married in my hometown. You can also get married in another Amphur.

    French,
I recently got married in Thailand. You do not have to legalize the 2 extracts from civil status. They must be international extracts. These documents are checked at the Dutch embassy in Bangkok. You will eventually receive 3 documents from the embassy that must be translated (to Thai) and legalized.
