Home » Reader question » Flies on my patio
Dear readers,
Lately I've been having a really annoying problem. I don't know if it's seasonal or not. I currently suffer a lot from flying and I'm not talking about those few who were always there.
A sheet of glue on the table may work partially (works like the old fly traps on the ceiling - fly on it and stick), but it takes a while for them to land on it. The fan is also always on when we sit on the terrace, because they would not like that either, they said…. but I don't notice much I must say. You understand that it is not pleasant to sit outside like this. You almost hope it gets dark soon because then they are gone.
So I'm looking for something that can keep those flies away from the terrace. Possibly by placing certain plants on the terrace, or placing certain plants around the terrace, or cleaning the terrace with a certain product, or….
Anyone have an idea ? All tips are welcome.
Thank you in advance.
Regards,
RonnyLatYa
Here in Lampang there are more than ever. Keeping away is an impossible task. There are adhesive sheets for sale. They fill up quickly, but the supply continues. We bought those bamboo trays that you can put a fly net over. Then they will at least stay off your plate. Furthermore, immediately remove all the dishes, then it becomes a little less attractive. And in the end there is little else to do but wait for them to leave.
Hopefully next year there will be much less.
That's what I feared too. Those adhesive sheets are currently my only solution, but it will take a while before they stick to them.
They were there from one day to the next. Hopefully they will go away soon too.
Often fertilized with chicken manure, it will rain, then they will come.
The flies are there even when it is not raining.
If it has rained you cannot sit outside anyway due to the invasion of the แมลง. 🙁
Also thought of the herd of cows that pass here twice a day and what they leave behind.
But before that they were there and then we didn't suffer from it.
But we are working on the garden and that might be a cause.
Hans.says.
In the Netherlands I use.de.citroenplant.
And in the garden too, animals don't like it, especially dogs.

Moderator: Dear Hans, Hans and Hans. Why 3x Hans in every response? This is not necessary, please leave it out.
Let me try then.
Purchased from Conrad for 7.99 euros... a kind of battery-powered propeller, works perfectly... item no. 166294….just put it on the table and fly away
Had this too and came to the conclusion that some cat had put a dead rat under my patio seat, it wasn't fun.
We clean outside with water and vinegar. Bugs don't like vinegar. I regularly go around with the plant sprayer in which I have water with a lot of vinegar. Shortly afterwards they left. Flies also come to sweat, but not sweating in Thailand seems impossible to me.
Dear Ronnie,
First of all, make sure your terrace is clean.
Spray your patio with VIXOL (toilet cleaner) and let it soak in.
repeat after some time! Depending on the new invasion fly!
You can possibly burning sticks in pots on the ground to keep mosquitoes (yung) away,
but you talk about flying.
A pair of fly-resistant pots with lemon plant/lemongrass tree plants. pieces of fresh garlic.
Success with it!
The disadvantage is that your joints between the tiles dissolve. So I stick to citric acid or lemongrass or boiled leaves of lemon plants
If it is during the day or in the evening, you must turn on a yellow fluorescent lamp.
Here in Uttaradit also after a heavy downpour. Comes through a river that may still contain dead fish and especially other waste. So take a look around in the neighborhood where there is a “landfill” if there is one.
Furthermore, if it is one of those big one-hit wonders. will pass by itself.
Well,
3 years ago we went with the whole family to a brother in Chumphon for a week's holiday.
A lot of flies here too, their own fault, they had 4 stray dogs that shit everywhere and the flies come to that.
I bought 3 pieces of A4 adhesive sheets at the local market for 50 Bhat each, in the evening they were full of flies and the next day just as many as before. I went to that market again and bought 10 sheets, 3 sheets a day and yes it became less, but after 4 days the sheets were gone again and yes, flying again the next day, it is true, less but still. So back to the market and again bought 10 sheets (the last one) and again 3 sheets a day, and in the evening there were “almost” no flies left, but in the morning they were there again, but less and less and when we went to Bangkok there were 22 sheets full and really almost no flies left.
