Dear readers,

I want to help my son living in Thailand with the cost of a student visa. Can someone tell me what the costs are in euros?

He doesn't want to say it himself. Hence the question.

Regards,

Aart

The Non-immigrant ED visa costs 60 Euro for the visa. yourself.
For an extension of his stay, this costs 1900 Baht (roughly 50 Euro) per extension

But of course it doesn't stop there. There are still the school costs and they can add up nicely..
Depends what and where he studies.
Is something he should say himself.

I had added the link of the Thai embassy in Brussels, but that is the same price in the Netherlands.

If you prefer to read it on the website of the Thai Embassy in The Hague, you can do so here

Since about 1 year, Immigration has become much stricter in issuing and checking student visas. And that's because there are a number of foreigners (not all young, but even of a retired age) who use or misuse a student visa (already available if you indicate that you are going to learn Thai in Thailand) to stay in Thailand.
Now also periodically the results of the Thai language lessons have to be shown and one checks with the school (if it already exists !!) whether the 'student' actually goes to school. This also happens randomly among foreign students at regular universities, I know from my own experience.

That has actually been the case since 2014.
For example, if you claim to take Thai language lessons, you may be addressed in Thai when asking for an extension, or you have to read a simple text, …
And the school will indeed have to provide proof that you regularly attend the lessons. I thought you had to be present at least 3 days a week…

Indeed, this visa was/is often abused.
Especially by those who want to stay here longer and cannot meet the requirements of, among other things, “retirement”….
