Reader question: Monastic residence near Bangkok

Dear readers,

We would like to stay in a monastery in the vicinity of Bangkok for a few days in mid-January to experience daily life and meditation. If possible we want to have an English conversation with the monks/novices about their daily life, Buddhism and general affairs.

Do you have information or contact addresses? We can only find organized volunteer activities, but would prefer to arrange this ourselves.

Thanks in advance for your reply.

With kind regards,

Irma

Wat Mahatat in old Bangkok is a must for English speakers. Website on the Internet. Warm welcome.

Dear, I can recommend a very nice monastery, I have been coming there for years, you stay in separate bungalows and you receive guidance in meditation, in the morning you go on a begging round, a very special experience, the food is very tasty, you decide how long you stay etc etc.
The monastery is located on the island of KOH SI CHANG, take the bus from Bangkok to Siracha, from there by tuk-tuk to the ferry, which takes about 40 minutes to KOH SI CHANG. The name of the monastery is TAM YAI PRIK. The entire drive from Bangkok to the monastery is no more than 4 hours.

    Good luck with metta, Wim.

Wat Maheyong in Ayutthaya has those capabilities and is free. English and Dutch are spoken. Just ask about Loung Por Bhante. Hope you have a nice stay in Thailand!
