Home » Reader question » Reader question: With children towards Pattaya and Koh Chang, who has tips?
Dear readers,
We leave July 15 with 2 young families (kids between 2 & 7 years old) towards Bangkok. We have been to Koh Tao, Koh Samui etc before without children.
We are now considering going to Pattaya, Chantaburi (dolphins), Koh Chang and Koh Kut. Is this advisable and does anyone have any tips about locations we should visit or not?
Thanks,
Willem
Not to be annoying or to repeat myself, but I want to advise you to read it yourself. Internet.
If you went to Samui around the same time last year, you probably had great weather. I think this period in Samui is also called High season. Christmas is then Peak season.
On Koh Chang and Koh Kut (that region) it is Low season. and not for nothing.
Last year on Koh Chang I found entire families who were terribly disappointed because it was so quiet on Koh Chang, it rained all day long - in between showers -, you could hardly dry yourself off due to the humidity and that they felt nauseous on the boat for a snorkeling trip because the waves were so high.
Koh Kut was only a huge detour to reach.
It is rainy season……………. (Krabi and Phuket also suffer from this)
Doesn't have to be a problem at all, of course, but I would adjust expectations a bit.
Still to Koh Chang? Waterfalls (beautiful when it has rained), If you have a few days with blue clear skies….. snorkeling from BangBao (BB Divers). Elephant trek.
Happy Holidays
If I may give one tip: leave Koh Chang for what it is and take the ferry to Koh Mak. Beautiful beaches, much less touristy and great for a holiday with children. Really recommended.
babara,
you have good taste.
been to koh gham too?
Yes I stayed on an island off the coast of Koh Mak, I thought it was called Koh Rayang (or was Rayang the name of the resort). Didn't do any islands in that area, it was wonderful on Koh Mak, I'm going back for a few days soon!
Weren't there too many sandflies on Koh Mak? I've heard a lot of nasty stories about that.
Regards,
Rob
Hello In the area of Pattaya, Ban Amphur,Sattahip you have some nice things for children too.
Pattaya water park, Crocodile farm in pattaya, Nong Nutch a very beautiful nature park and with elephant show. Silverlake park near Huay Yai. The dolphin park is nice, has a very large beautiful swimming pool and there are also shows with dolphins. You also have a very nice beach in Ban Amphur
where it is good to stay. You also have Bang Saray a very nice beach on a marine base with toilets, showers and a suppermark. The access is not free if I am correct 60 bath per person. The beaches in the seaside resort of Pattaya are disappointing and are not as beautiful and a lot of commerce. This is often not the case on the beaches outside Pattaya. All these locations can be reached by boarding taxis and cost between 10 baht and 50 baht per person depending on the distance. It is the warmest period of the year and in the rainy season. But it normally doesn't rain all day or days long. From Pattaya you can take the boat to Kolang, a beautiful island off the coast of Pattaya and has beautiful beaches. Have a lot of holiday fun
Willem,
I think the dolphin show in chantaburi is out of business. (I'm not sure).
There used to be no transport back in the evening after the show, but we did find thai people who will take you back to chantaburi for a fee
Koh Kut has 2 disadvantages: many beaches are isolated from each other.
In the sea you can easily injure yourself on the coral.
It is very lonely there
A few years ago I saw a Swedish couple with children panicked and covered in blood.
The whole family had to go to the hospital with coral scrapes.
Koh mak is indeed much better for the children and also for you.
you can take the speed boat or the slow ferry.
There is no ATM on Koh Mak, so bring cash.
The weather can play tricks.
With high waves it is no fun on the speedboat.
I myself have seen a real whirlwind come over the island.
Accommodation is good on koh mak (koh mak resort is fine)
koh kham what lies before koh mak is heavenly and is not inferior to the maladives.
have fun
I know 2 particularly beautiful parks, first of all Sanctuary of truth, a very beautiful park with a very beautiful
castle made entirely of wood with wooden statues and animals all wood carving, you can also watch how they make it because they are always working with at least 20 people. You can also take a ride on an elephant.
The million years stone park is certainly beautiful for the children, they can take a picture with a tiger and they can feed crocodiles and there is also a crocodile show, a wonderfully beautiful park with large stones and lots of flowers. There is also a train. round.
It is best to do this yourself by hailing a baht bus and negotiating the price.
Sanctuary of truth is about 7 kilometers.
Stone park is about 12 kilometers.
Have fun everyone
You can go to Laenm Sing, which is on the beach and near the Dolfinarium. Depends a bit on transportation but Pliew waterfall is very beautiful. You swim among the fish. Or to Ao Yang very beautiful bay. See the map on the website. That also includes Oasis Sea World.
Ban Pak Chai Hat is not that far from the center of Laem Sing. Bungalows and restaurant on the beach. Also open in the evening. So children can go straight from the beach to bed. The resort provides a ticket that gives you a discount at the dolphinarium. I pay 600 baht there because I stay more days and people know us. And if they don't have enough space, they will make sure you can go to another resort.

Hotel Siri is not recommended.
I have been there many times with wife and daughter when she was 2, 3 and 4. From there you can also go to Ao Kung Krabeang, aquarium and boardwalk through mangrove forest. Or to Hat Kun Wiman, beautiful beach and good food.
Have a nice holiday.
Koh Wai is also recommended according to http://www.travelfish.org (http://www.travelfish.org/location/thailand/eastern_thailand/trat/ko_wai).
I've been to Koh Kood (Kut) in 2012. Few western kids seen. I would choose Koh Phangan, north-east coast with nice quiet bungalows or the north-west coast with lots of options, also good snorkeling. The full moon party is only 1x/month and is in the south-west of the island. I went there with my kids in 2010. Mai Penn Rai bungalows, east coast. Ideal for the kids. Paradise. Bit of a tatoo scene, but very friendly, and lots of kids were there.
Have a nice holiday in advance,
Rob
