Dear readers,

This summer my husband, myself and our 14 year old son are backpacking to Thailand. My son especially likes adventurous things (he keeps mentioning the jungle tours himself).

Who has tips, places, names of guides etc. to make it as great as possible for him?

Thank you very much for thinking along!

Regards,

Moniek

    Hallo,
At the beginning of March we did a fourteen-day tour in Thailand.
It included a three-day jungle trek.
    We booked everything through Connections.
We took the night train from Bangkok to Chiangmai. From there with a jeep to the starting point in the jungle.
Only you need fitness and training the thigh muscles, because it is not flat.
Wear good shoes with a good non-slip sole.
Be informed about the summer climate. Very hot and a lot of rain?
    Good trip
    Tilly

Viengtravel offers a 3-day Pong Noi Jungle Trekking that is definitely worth it. More information can be found on the website of Viengtravel.

Hello, In Chiang Mai you can do different trekkings, you can do a short one but also for several days. You go into the jungle on foot, but also a bit on the elephant and a bit of rafting or on a raft. You spend the night in villages in the jungle. Booking in advance is not necessary because Chiang Mai is bursting with travel agencies. And you can book a whole lot of different things there. But highly recommended is the Flight of the Gibbons, then you go cables from treetop to treetop amazingly beautiful. Have fun !

Flight of the Gibbon is well worth it but very expensive, you pay for the name too. Then you better do Eagle Track, cheaper than Flight of the Gibbon and the same concept.

You can book a jungle trek of one or more days at various local travel agencies or even at your guesthouse. In Chiang Mai, for example, prices varied from about 1000 to 2000 baht for three days. I myself have good experience with Wandering Star agency tel. +66899518996 . Everyone will be able to find something that fits somewhere. In other places it is the same story, talking around searching and comparing offers.
Furthermore, the normal things, make sure you are in a reasonable condition, good clothes and shoes, a bottle of water and so on. You can assume that most tours are geared to falang pace and not to Thai people who know the jungle from an early age. I myself want to go through the jungle a bit longer, about ten days, but that's a different story. You have to be 'in order' and, according to the guide I spoke to, carry twenty kilos of food and other things with you.

We plan to do the following in November. No experience myself, however.

Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai (to a lesser extent) are too busy. Mae Hong Son to visit the hilltribes is much nicer. You can book on the spot in a hotel or travel agency. Don't forget an elephant trip. Kao Sok not bad either. Rooms in the tops of the trees and sleeping on rafts on a lake with a fantastic "swim trip" in semi-submerged caves, but no hill tribes. Good condition is necessary and the overnight stays in the hilltribe villages (the real ones) are very primitive under blankets full of dust by the open fire because of the cold. The food no star food; however, the adventure pays for everything.

Very adventurous is the tree tops jungle safaris 3 nights = 1 night sleep in the tree house
with a trip on the river. Then you go by boat on a large lake, you can't see anything anymore
like water and rocks, no idea how far from civilization we were to end up
on the bamboo houses on the edge of the lake. You hear nothing but animals. You stay here for 2 nights, once with a guide on a safari trip. You view this when you type TREE TOPS JUNGLE SAFARIS. Have fun.
