Reader question: How best to travel from Jomtien to Hua Hin?
Dear readers,
We (6 people) want to go to Hua Hin for 4 days in January. Can anyone tell me the best way to get there from Jomtien to Hua Hin? Any idea what the costs are?
Thanks in advance,
Piet
You can travel from Jomtien to Hua Hin by minibus for 400 Baht.
He stops in the middle of Hua Hin at the "clock tower" on the main road.
You do run a chance that (as I often had) you will meet a bomb pilot who tries to break a new speed record.
Nowadays I take the bus from Jomtien to the airport (departures from the food mart every hour) and from the airport (down at gate 8) to Hua Hin.
Total cost also about 400 Baht. I personally find the bus much more comfortable and safer. You have more seating space (especially on the bus from the airport to Hua Hin) and you travel at normal speeds.
The Bus to Hua HIn has a single row of seats on the left and 2 seats next to each other on the right. So if you are traveling alone it is recommended to ask for a seat on the left side. Gr. Paul
I live in Pattata. Jomtien is just a little further.
Option 1 (like I used to do before I had my own car here) rent a car.
Option 2 Have a minibus take you there.
Option 3 Buy a ticket and take a minibus to Bangkok and from there with a minibus to Hua Hin.
I wouldn't take a minibus given the bad reputation. Just a taxi to Suvarnabhumi and there the luxury Hua-Hin bus, which goes that way seven times a day. You can even book online. See: http://www.airporthuahinbus.com/suvarnabhumi-airport-hua-hin-bus-schedule-timetable
The above option of traveling by bus a) to BKK airport and b) then from there to HH is by far preferable, in my opinion.
I in turn have the question of how to travel from Pattaya (or Jomtien) to Don Muang airport. Also via BBK airport? As far as I know, there is only a bus from one airport to another for travelers arriving by plane at one airport and departing by plane from the other.
Hello, we rented a van with driver and said not above 100 km otherwise no tip
and the costs were 6 bath per person incl tip with 500 people and a safe journey
You can rent such a van anywhere because it is not that busy with van rentals in Thailand anymore.
Have a nice holiday to HUA HIN.
Dear Wim,
If you can show a ticket that you have booked on a flight from Don Muang, you can board the bus straight away.
That is our experience last January
Many responses assume that it must be "cheap", but that is not the question. Piet asks for the best way with 6 people. Now for me this just means ordering a Mini-van Taxi. This drives "privately", so you can address the driver about his driving behavior if necessary. You can make as many stops as desired and it is door-to-door transport, without the hassle of suitcases or backpacks. Costs I estimate at approximately THB 2.500 to 3.000, which is approximately € 13,50 pp. NB. enough providers to be found in Pattaya / Jomtien.
Just take a taxi van, for a maximum of 2500 bath you are ready and you are in Hua Hin in front of your hotel with all your luggage and 6 people.
I agree with Paul and Ko. With six people in a taxi van. I do have one more tip: Print out a map of the route in Hua Hin or at least make sure you have the telephone number of the hotel in Hua Hin at hand. The driver is probably not known in Hua Hin and so he can easily find the route to the hotel based on your printout or in conversation with the hotel receptionist.
Roswita, you are clearly an expert by experience. These are the tips that people can use!
Do not take a minibus, did it twice and that was twice too much. Irresponsible driving by the driver.
Henry, you confuse people. Not every minivan is an irresponsible driving taxi, you will mainly find this where vans are ready for arriving passengers, who each pay for themselves or their group. On a pre-ordered van via a Taxi company (locally), you will often find a civilized, friendly driver without Formula 1 aspirations, with exceptions. Incidentally, with a self-ordered van, it is very easy to approach “your” driver to change the way you drive.
