Does it make sense to fly to Thailand via Dusseldorf?
Dear readers,
Now that flying is getting more expensive and extra taxes are levied on departure from Schiphol, I wondered if it made sense to fly via Düsseldorf? Specifically, my question is, what is the best way to travel by public transport from Utrecht Central to the airport and back, of course? Can you just get in or do you have to book things online?
And what about the night? Can you travel internationally from Düsseldorf to the Netherlands if your flight lands in the middle of the night?
Who has experience?
Regards,
Jan Willem

Years ago I flew 2 x from Dusseldorf to Thailand.
The first time with the ICE train from Utrecht to the airport with 1 transfer.
The second time by car to Duss. airport.
This was back in the days of Air Berlin…
It is best to check this out for yourself at skyscanner.nl Keep in mind that if you have to be there 3 hours in advance and you fly in the morning and you will have to spend a night in a hotel, if you fly in the afternoon you will lose almost 1 extra day. with travel and the costs of train transport. I have done it once myself, but I would rather pay a few tens more from Schiphol
On tix.nl you can choose all airports and get flights from Amsterdam, Brussels, Dusseldorf and more. Even a few days earlier or later can make a world of difference. And there are more sites like that
There is an ICE from Urecht to Düsseldorf Hauptbahnhof. There you have to change to a regional train to the airport. You can also take a regional train from Arnhem to Düsseldorf airport. This one stops a lot.
Various costs will also rise in Düsseldorf. Please note that round trip transportation to and from the Netherlands is not free.
Furthermore, Düsseldorf no longer has direct flights to Thailand. This means first from the Netherlands to Düsseldorf. Then fly from Düsseldorf to another airport and transfer to Bangkok.
KLM and EVA go directly from Schiphol to Bangkok
My German neighbors here in Thailand live in Germany near Cologne, so not far from Dusseldorf.
They fly to/from Thailand via Amsterdam or Frankfurt.
Just by train
I often land at Dusseldorf t station is at the airport. Very easy to walk a short distance with your suitcase or suitcase and check in.
If you do not want to take the expensive ICE, there are also cheap train tickets with a quick change in Arnhem and Dusseldorf, from any station in the Netherlands these cost less than 20 euros if you buy the ticket 1 or 2 months in advance at NS International, just print it out and are ready for departure, you can also travel via Venlo, but that is a bit more inconvenient from Utrecht.
Have a nice trip in advance!
Dear JW,
I have made the journey Utrecht – Düsseldorf more than once.
Online a ticket https://www.bahn.de/ buy it and you're done.
Good trip!
Lufthansa does not (temporarily) fly directly to bkk. It was in the past.
If you do take a transfer for granted, there are suddenly many more options, even Eindhoven.
