Home » Reader question » Reader question: Who can help me with information about fishing in Thailand?
Dear readers,
I am planning to take up an old hobby which is fishing. Especially freshwater fishing attracts me.
So I am looking for:
- experiences,
- good fishing spots on lakes, rivers and ponds,
- tips on fishing techniques applied here,
- reading about fishing in Thailand, in short, all information about this is welcome.
It is of course also my intention to get my info from the locals, who know better than who, where and how to fish, but I suspect that there are also experienced fishing enthusiasts on the blog who can recommend certain areas, techniques and reading.
Initially I will start casting my line here in the area (Ladphrao, Bangkok), but the intention is to do the same in the rest of Thailand in the future.
Thanks in advance
RonnyLadPhrao
Ronny, I wrote a piece two days ago. If you come by this time next year, you can see it and possibly participate. Guaranteed fish.
Gerrie
I had already read your wonderful story of the miraculous catch of fish. That certainly seems like something to me, although net fishing is not really my thing. On the other hand, I would like to experience something like that, even if only as a spectator
Dear Ronny Lad Phrao,
Near Suvarnabhumi Airport there are many fishing places. Every weekend there are many fish fanatics.
You have to speak Thai to learn all the ins and outs.
Greetings from Mahanak,
Ernst Otto
@RonnyLadPhrao
For real freshwater fishing in Thailand you have to be in Kanchanaburi province. For example, the large reservoirs of Khao Laem with, among other things, the life-threatening "snakehead" fish! In the middle of dense jungle without mass tourism. You don't have to take an organized tour. Rent a floating bungalow and fish from your terrace with a cold beer in hand. What else do you want….
For more information see:

Ronny, I live near Pranburi, 20 km south of Hua Hin. Close to me is a fishing resort where you can catch big fish. It's called Springfield Valley. You can also spend the night there and the road is well signposted.

Around Huahin you have twenty of these fish locations at one you pay 100 baht and at the other 300 baht there is food and drink available everywhere and you do not have to go between the bushes for your needs. I myself have never spent more than ten euros on a day of fishing. I rent a scooter and drive to a fish park. Sea fishing is also fun around Huahin. The pier in Cha-am and the pier in Huahin are beautiful spots.

Fishing in Thailand with Thailand's leading team of expert fishing guides. Thailand fishing destinations include fishing in Bangkok & fishing in Kanchanaburi. Specialist Thailand fishing holidays & trips for Mekong giant catfish, Siamese giant carp, giant snakehead, jungle perch, Indian carp & many more freshwater species found fishing Thailand.
I am also very curious about the tips as I am also a fanatic carp fisherman, but of course also want to catch other fish in Thailand.
Now still searching during holidays, also around BuriRan (Lamplaimat) as I also stay there for a few days every trip.
Sincerely
Cor Verkerk
Pattaya also has fish ponds.
There are plenty of Europeans who know cuttings.
Or ask a taxi driver.
There is a restaurant, which may prepare your own caught fish.
Hi Ronny, I was looking for something like that myself. I am retired and live in the Netherlands, but I would like to go to Thailand again for fishing. However, my mates either have no time or no money for it and alone is just alone. So I offer me as a fishing buddy, let's hear it. Kind regards, Ruud
It might be an idea to do this together with several bloggers, one or more of whom have more experience with fishing in Thailand, so that we can learn something from it, but in any case it seems like a nice idea.
At the moment I'm still in a starting position myself and still have to find my way myself, because I've actually never fished here (except for some ponds in Pattaya, but those were more parties than actually fishing).
Hi .
I have been to Chiang Mai and about 40 km from there you had a large fish pond in Borsang, where many large fish were caught. See my video
