Reader question: How is Patong Beach now?
Dear readers,
We have already gone on leave to Thailand several times, ending in a few days of beach holiday at Patong Beach. The beach was full of sunbeds and umbrellas, local sellers came to offer their wares, and the sunbed rental companies brought your drink to the spot.
Apparently things have been different for several years now, I read now: the military leadership has had the beach cleaned up, you can't even rent a lounger there anymore. Has anyone been to Patong Beach lately (2015), and can provide us with more information on this?
If you have to stay in a hotel, on the edge of the swimming pool, it is no longer necessary for us. Too bad for the locals, because this was always a fun time with all those vendors, and a source of income for them.
Yours faithfully,
Luc
Just got back from patong beach and Idk there are still no beach chairs available. However, the beach boys have made a kind of bed with a headrest in the sand with a pillow on it. Parasols are present. The boys also provide refreshments. thought it was reasonable. I did understand that there would be a meeting with the governor in the short term. I don't know what might have come out of that or maybe that still has to happen
Dear Luke,
I have been living in Karon for several years, right next to Patong and go there every day.
Indeed, there are no more sunbeds for rent, only umbrellas and a blue mat that used to be on the beds, at 100 baht each.
In certain places, the Thais make piles of sand against which you can place the blue mat.
Unfortunately, I don't see the sun loungers coming back immediately, all the more so because the police sometimes conduct raids on beach chairs that they brought themselves. confiscation of seat and 2000 baht fine.
There are now even zones on the beach where you are no longer allowed to smoke or eat.
I personally do not see tourism increasing immediately, and fear for the local population that the coming high season will also become a low season.
Greetings Rudy
Did Pattaya and now we are in Patong beach, the only pity is that it is full of Indians in the hotels and outside, do not say much about it !!!!
I had already read it, but I honestly have no idea what the reason is, why shouldn't beach chairs be placed with it?
And that, in combination with alcohol prohibition, will cost a lot of tourists.
it is already difficult to buy a beer between 2 and 5 pm.
And everything has to close at 12 o'clock at night, only if you know the way can you continue
no, the smile slowly disappears and does not come back for the time being.
I am now in phuket and have heard that beach chairs will be allowed again next month
We went in April and indeed they have decided not to place sun loungers there anymore. Now you can buy a seat in the local shops and take it to the beach, ask where you can stand with your chair, because there are fines given if you are in a zone that is not allowed.
Been to Karon beach last April and there are some stretchers that you can lie on and some loose blue mattresses (which used to be on the sunbeds) with umbrellas. These are furthest from the surf.
