How is it now in touristic Thailand?

Dear readers,

I read all about visas and how long you can stay in Thailand and how you can get your pension and state pension and on which bank.
But actually I want to know from time to time what about the holiday resorts and islands? Are the tourists back and is everything open again? Is it nice to stay in Thailand now?

I myself want to go to Thailand again in January for two months, but then the cozy and vibrant Thailand before corona. Would like to read some more about it.

Maybe an update every month? Quite interesting so that the ordinary tourist also knows what his holiday will look like. Because empty beaches and closed restaurants and closed markets are not what you come to Thailand for.

Regards,

Aad

Well dear man, your question is “what is it like in tourist Thailand now?” with the emphasis on vibrant.
I am indirectly involved and give you 1 answer “disastrous”
Check out how to book a hotel now. For a bargain price.
But you're going in January, things can still change. “what” is the general expectation/
It is now rainy season. The meteo gives very bad prospects, there will be serious flooding again.
They have not yet ended in January.
Our seaworthy yacht is out of the water in Rayong for maintenance. Nut back in late September and to Pattaya. Bookings fail.
I'm glad I'm only experiencing this sideways.
For you I advise: better wait another year”!!!

Just got back from a 3 week holiday in Thailand. Almost everything was open. Not super busy everywhere but lively enough for us. Been to Bangkok, Khao Lak, Chiang Mai and Pai.

Currently, covid-19 is still quite prevalent in Thailand. The official figures (1.900 infections per day) are unreliable, but increase them by a factor of 15. The Thais therefore still wear the mouth masks almost everywhere (some places even obligatory for access!). Experienced several infections in those 3 weeks around our circle of acquaintances / friends there in that period (south & north Thailand). Nevertheless, now a great holiday to have there!

Thailand is pretty well scribbled. But there are also a number of small shops and or restaurants and bars closed. Now it is rainy season and so, just like every year, fewer tourists. But high season is coming. The tourist life will certainly increase next season. Attractions are open as are the hundreds of bars, Gogo, hotels, restaurants. I was there in May and really enjoyed it! January back to Thailand.

      Dear Frank,

I don't know where you are staying in Thailand? We have recently returned from a short visit to Phuket and more specifically Kata/Karon Beach. There are indeed some things open, but how vibrant it used to be and we were there several times is currently a disaster. The large hotels that are open have almost no bookings and the small cozy hotels are simply closed. Most shops closed or bankrupt. A few massage parlors and a few restaurants are open but no customers, a really sad affair. An afternoon visit to Phuket Town where the famous shopping street is, almost all the small shops and coffee bars were open. Let's hope that the next high season will indeed be high, but I think it will take at least another year. The beach: quiet and deserted. The business Thais realize it and are therefore not happy, they are trying to survive with almost no employees. The prices of hotel stays have plummeted to bargain prices. I won't describe anything more here because the situation is pathetic at the moment. If you also see the prices of the airlines, this is not an incentive to choose long distances to go on leave.

Dear Aad, if you are so interested in how things are going in Thailand at the moment, why don't you watch the 1000 and YouTube videos. Type in Hua Hin or Bkk or Phuket or others and you immediately have a lot of information about the malls, restaurants, nightlife or whatever you are interested in. Detailed your search and you will find what you want to know.
    Succes

      Dear Hans,

There are a lot of YouTube videos that are not up to date.
Some Vloggers find it interesting to mix video recordings from before the Corona with recordings from now.
They do this to attract more viewers, so they can earn more from YouTube. So not reliable.

A few, including this one that works up to date:

    Dear Adam,

The bustling Thailand before the Corona virus is still a long way off.
Lots for sale and rent and very few tourists.
I myself assume that vibrant Thailand will be in the last quarter of 2024 at the earliest.
I live here and don't need the buzz.

    Yours faithfully,

    Hua.

Been to Pattaya and Koh Chang two weeks ago. In Pattaya only explored Soi Bukao.
Yes, you can say bustling, but mainly because of the expats and visitors from Bangkok who live there.
On Koh Chang sadness. Although 60% of the resorts, restaurants and bars were open, there were hardly any guests. We booked a boat trip, but when we arrived at the completely deserted jetty in the morning, we got our money back from the organization, no boat trip due to lack of interest.
At the beginning of the jetty many shops of which only a few were open, at the end full of boats lying still. A dazed Thai couple looking around who wanted to take a boat to Koh Mak. A while later I saw them, wearing a life jacket, in a sloop with an outboard motor, looking for complete solitude.

We have been in Thailand from mid-July to mid-August: Bangkok, Khorat, Koh Samui, Koh Pangan and Hua Hin. It is indeed quieter than we were used to due to the lack of tourists. Some restaurants and hotels are still closed. I have not noticed any dump prices.
In general: you can go to Thailand just fine, it is just pleasantly busy. That crowds are mainly due to Thai tourists who use government subsidies on hotels, restaurants and airline tickets.

    Hi Adam.
I have just been in Pattaya for 1 month.
    Just really good.
Restaurant bars in soi bokou and massage
    Salons open as normal.
Certainly quiet in terms of tourists.
But I really liked doing it.
Hotels are giving nice prices now.
Yes and of course there is also a lot of bankruptcy.
That is the case all over the world.
    I'm going again in November.

Just a week back. Been 5 weeks. Jomtien fairly busy. Isaan in the village as usual. Calm. Bangkok busy but a lot of clearcutting in the malls. MBK much empty in the back. Are they redecorating now. Chinatown busy. Furthermore, many Indians but few Farang.
There is also a lot of vacancy in the big cities such as Surin. Of the 3 floors, only the bottom one is still open.
