Dear readers,

I have a bad experience with a dentist in Chiangmai, I'll be brief. Went to Changmai last year for an implant, they told me I need two.

I pay 225.000 baht including three crowns. I'm going back in November for the 3 crowns. She puts the metals in, and says go to the reception first, there I will receive a bill of 105.000 baht. Very expensive I say.

A few months later a problem because my front tooth starts to shift. I go for a second opinion and that dentist says that the second implant was not necessary. I could have done it in the Netherlands for less than EUR 4.000.

Now comes my question, can I get anything back from this? Can I sue them or some other trick that I get something back, even if only that they bleed for it.

Yours faithfully,

Ruud

Getting money back is always very difficult in Thailand.
Personally, I don't think what you've done is very smart. You paid almost double as in the Netherlands. From your story I understand that you did not make good arrangements with that first dentist in Chiang Mai. Price all inclusive ? What about problems afterwards? etc. I see few opportunities to recover anything.

How to get money back as a farang in Thailand (or elsewhere in South East Asia)?? …… hmmm, impossible to my knowledge!

Well-known saying in Thailand: “sugarcane in mouth elephant he never gives back”. And that usually also applies if they are legally obliged to do so, because - especially as a foreigner - just find out. That starts with a reliable lawyer (you won't succeed) and ends after a few years with a judge. And then you just have to see if you're right.
For example, with every rented house we have always lost the deposit (2 months rent) on departure - it is simply not returned with some excuse. Being right and being right are two completely different concepts in Thailand.

Prices in Pattaya: implant around 50.000 baht
    A crown 10.000-15.000.
I think you've been heavily ripped off.

Just search the internet for Thai Medical Council or something similar, where you can file a complaint.
If you found it, threaten it first.
Whether that Council will ever respond is another….

    Strength!

Here in the interior of Thailand: six months ago, three crowns, some repairs and 10 teeth with a white composite coating for a total price of 11000 Bath. In two weeks the semi-annual check-up, which I don't think is necessary. Everything seems fine.
I understand it is more expensive in the touristy areas but so much more expensive.

Cheaper in BE! And then you have a partial refund + warranty and quality certificate from the manufacturer of the implants! We are here in the land of the 'copy', also in the medical/dental field.
Medical/Dental shopping in Asia or Eastern Europe often ends badly!
      Think before you start!

Here is Chiang Mai at the front on samlan road, I also asked a dentist for an implant. The price would be 232000 Bt I asked them what I actually paid, the teeth or the apartment.
Never went in there again. The price when inquiring at other places turned out to be in the same league. Keep my normal teeth.

    Contact this government agency.

Usually the threat of this service is enough to resolve the matter.

I did it as follows black on white English price quote. Then nothing had been done yet and I wanted to pay fixed no way I pay when I'm done and it's okay always take 5 days extra if something is happy it was okay treatment finished paid. That's how I do it when I have clothes made, but a small down payment proof of it when it's done, the rest. After a bad experience in Chiang Mai and threatening with the police who was at the door. Well done I got all my money back.

There are certainly good and reliable dentists in Thailand. Just think that these are a bit harder to find than in the Netherlands. Have had good and bad experiences with dentists in Thailand in the past.
For example, if I see several dental practices in backstreets in certain neighborhoods in Bkk. Then people have to wonder how the quality of these types of dentists is. Ever had a tooth pulled in such a practice. Did you know, many people too little anesthesia. Now know why it was so cheap haha.
My girlfriend prefers to have her teeth treated in the Netherlands if necessary when she is in the Netherlands. As she finds the quality here a lot better than in Thailand.

On August 19 I am in Thailand and 4 days later at the dentist, made a reservation from the Netherlands.
A crown must be placed 1 crown 7500 Bath 2 crowns together for …..13000 bath.
So the man is cheated, first do your homework and then buy.
We don't have internet for nothing.
Found this on the homepage of Pattaya….. . Dental Smile!!!
Close to TUCOM shop in Pattaya .
Just sent an email and answered within 24 hours.

Had my first crown placed about 10 years ago, but then the bath was more favorable at 0 €
    for a crown.
You can't compare now, mate, right ....... and he's still sitting .!!!

Dentists have an excellent reputation in Thailand. Of course you shouldn't go to back streets. Every hospital has a dental clinic. If he goes there, you'll never be disappointed. I go to my local dentist, he also does excellent work at affordable prices,,

I go to a dental practice in Rangsit district (Bangkok) every year. Never any problems. They have 1 english speaking dentist. Affordable and cheaper than in NL.
