Dear readers,

I have been officially living with my Thai girlfriend in Belgium for 1 year. Now I would like her daughter to come here with visa type D for family reunification. What documents do I need to apply and where can I go?

Thank you.

Regards,

Erik

    Birth certificate translated and legalized
Authorization of the father or proof of death translated and legalized
Indemnification = statement to be drawn up at the city counter or town hall
Be able to prove that you have sufficient housing (rental agreement or title deed)
Be able to demonstrate that you have sufficient income for the payment (pay slips of the last 3 months)
Proof of the health insurance fund that she can be registered on arrival in Belgium
Diplomas and reports from the last school years are also useful when registering in OKAN
Patience, with us it took about 7 months 6 years ago

If the Immigration Department website is not sufficiently clear regarding the migration of a minor child, also consult the agency for integration and civic integration, which contains various procedures with explanations and advice regarding both short stays and immigration, civic integration, etc.

    See for example:

    Hi Eric,

You don't write how old the girl is. Please note that she is no longer eligible for family reunification after her 18th birthday. Our eldest daughter was 17 at the time and the residence permit was ready just in time.

If you are lucky, the biological father is not "officially" married to the mother. Many Thai people marry in a religious ceremony and do not register that marriage with the Thai government. Then the biological father cannot demand money or make it difficult in any other way.

I wish you good luck with the procedure!
