Dear readers,

Suppose: I buy a house (in Thailand) for 75.000 euros and bring 100.000 euros with me (with proof from the bank). I declare this sum to customs in Belgium, do I also have to declare this sum to customs in Thailand?

I don't need all the money and I have 8.000 euros too much that I want to return to Belgium. Do I have to declare all this again at customs in Thailand and in Belgium?

Thanks in advance

Regards,

Willy

Go through customs at the airport and fill in the form and sometimes show a bank statement, then REALLY enter it at Bangkok airport. ….otherwise big problems ahead……….they prefer to see it transferred from bank to thai bank. And don't forget that when exporting, customs will contact the tax authorities to see if it is responsible money.

Just in addition.. about that 8000 euros you have left, you don't have to worry...10000 euros is free travel.

That is to say: you do not have to declare it to customs up to 10.000 euros. But to be clear; if you are checked, you must be able to justify that amount, this is still not clear to a lot of people.
If you are checked at Schiphol and you have, for example, 9500 euros with you, without a clear record/evidence, or the like, you can really miss your flight.

When you leave the EU, you are obliged to declare any amount from 10.000 euros to Customs. Upon entering Thailand, this limit is 20.000 US dollars. When you return to Europe, you will have no problem bringing back 8000 Euro, because this is clearly below the limit.

Amounts above an equivalent of USD 20,000 must be declared to customs in Thailand upon arrival. By the way, I would not like to be in your shoes walking around with such a cash amount, seems to me a dangerous game, all the more because people know about it (not every customs officer can be trusted in Thailand).
Excess money can easily be exported again, provided that there is no more than 500.000 baht in cash. Dollars and Euros are no problem.
What is a problem is if you want to buy a condo with cash. You will then have problems with the Thai government, who will want to see proof that the money has been transferred from abroad. You cannot then register as a buyer.

I can't write it more clearly here.

    Willie
Bringing an amount of 100000 euros in cash has so many risks that I wouldn't start it.
    You can lose it.
    Someone can steal it
Suppose something happens on the way, who pays attention to the money
It is hoped that nothing will happen, but taking so much cash with you is only justified if it is not white, but even then if you are arrested, you are screwed.
So my advice is nice per bank

For example, if you travel from the Netherlands to another country, the amount is 10.000.00 euros per person.
If you travel as a couple, it is also 10.000.00 euros together, declare everything above that.
Recently experienced a trip to America. But had no problems because I said it is still 10.000.00 per person, so as a couple also 10.000.00 euros. Could prove money was ours.
No idea how it is back because then we don't have to fill in landing cards.
So you travel together 5.000.00 per person.

Dear Christina, each person can carry out an amount of up to 10.000 euros without declaring, and this has nothing to do with whether someone is traveling as a couple or not. Only the money must be carried clearly separated in the personal luggage, so that it is clear that only the person concerned can confer about the money. If, during a possible customs check, more than 10.000 euros are found in the joint luggage, which has not been declared, then this is punishable. The video on You Tube, which is also described above in Dirk's response, indicates the correct method.

    Dear Loe
In my question about taking money to Thailand, I say plainly and clearly that this sum, with proof of origin, will be taken by the bank and not as you think it would be black money.
I am not traveling alone and thank you for the advice
    Kind regards
    Willy

I think it is better to open a Euro account and deposit your money there. Seems safer and more convenient to me. And no hassle at customs

Have you ever inquired at the bank to bring a (guaranteed) bank check?

    • Eric says up

A (guaranteed) bank check doesn't seem like such a good idea to me. Provided they still exist, in Thailand you will never get them cashed in Euros and certainly not OGV. Can you find out how much time this will take, and at what exchange rate.

So by the time you buy a house there it will also be in order with the visa and I would like to open a bank account on site and have the amount transferred electronically

Transferring money to a Thai bank is free if you have an Argenta account…

  12. patrick says up

how much commission do you owe when you transfer such amount by bank transfer?
    plus bank charges….

The intention of the questioner will probably be to exchange this money as cheaply as possible from Euro to THB. There is nothing wrong with that. This usually happens in an exchange office such as Super Rich. I wonder if the questioner has any idea what the volume of 100.000Eu is in THB? That is very roughly a small 4.000.000 THB …. that in notes of 1000THB represents a volume of a filled hand luggage and if you don't have it at hand you are standing on the sidewalk with two large plastic bags filled with notes of 1000THB …. fun is different.

  14. Willy says up

    Hello lung addie
It's good that there are still people with a sense of humor! My intention is effectively to bring this sum to Thailand myself. If you have this sum exchanged in the bank itself, and you put it on an account, you can get a good currency with some negocieren.
