Reader question: By boat to Ayutthaya
Dear readers,
We leave for Thailand for the first time in 3 weeks. We booked three nights in Bangkok. The last day we would like to go by boat to Ayutthaya and cycle there. Who has tips with which organization we book this best? Is it feasible to bring our luggage?
Then we would take the train to Phitsanulok that same day and travel on to Sukhothai? We want to book two nights in Sukhothai to visit the site in peace. Tips for a good and centrally located hotel Afterwards we think we will take the 1st class night train to Chang Mai. Experiences?
Thanks for the comments.
Yvette
do not know if it is feasible, boat to Ayutthaya, bicycles, train to P'lok and bus to Sukhothai in 1 day.
That will be a busy day.
That night train to CM is also something difficult. Probably fully booked!! Just take the day train.
Have fun anyway
Perhaps a bit too much in one day. Alternative ? 1 night in Ayutthaya ? And then travel to sukhothai and spend 1 full days there. Interesting ? Accommodation tips ? And then by train to CM. There 2 days and then flight to krabi. Another 4 week on koh lantha or suggestion for another idyllic place there? Thanks in advance for the tips.
just read for you. No experience. Find it quite expensive. But this is what you're looking for.
Mekhala Cruise & Bicycle
This 2-day Ayutthaya Boat & Bike Tour is the ideal way to travel from Bangkok to the historic city of Ayutthaya, the ancient capital of Thailand and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Thanks, but we are looking for a day excursion from Bangkok: rice boat + cycling in Ayuthaya. Experience with it? Because there are a lot of + and – on the internet about excursions. Greenwoodtravel ? Viator ? Where to spend the most time: ayutthaya or sokhuthai?
day trip is sufficient, not a 2 day one. But it is difficult to choose between the companies that offer it. Experiences ?
Sukothai : Lotus guesthouse, old teak house, quiet, beautiful and great class!
Is one of my favorite guesthouses in Thailand.
Fly from there to CM, costs about the same and saves a lot of time.
The view on the way to Ayutthaya is not shocking. I would choose to choose a transfer van, for example, to arrange via Greenwood travel in Bangkok. You will be dropped off at the hotel. No lugging a suitcase. Worth staying a night. Enough to see on the bike. In Sukotai, near the historical part, there is a beautiful hotel La charme Sukotai hotel.
Thank you Annelies, we have now booked 3 nights in “le charme Sukhothai hotel” because it does indeed have very good reviews. We will do 1 day of Ayutthaya by bike beforehand and then 1 overnight stay and then the day train to Sukhothai. We are still looking for a good hotel in Ayutthaya. Any tips?
Dear Yvette,
As it is upstream a cruise from Bangkok to Ayutthaya takes more than 12 hours. It is one of the reasons that many cruise companies stopped offering this route. In any case it is not a 1 day excursion.
Sawasdee khap,
In my humble opinion there is much more to see in Ayutthaya than in Sukhothai, but it is wonderful!
I have the following experience: best to travel around with a 'minivan' for quick transport
1/Ayutthaya : definitely stay 3 nights to visit and enjoy all the temples – touring around by scooter is the best because sometimes you have to search for the temples on your plan!
2/ Sukhothai (oldhistorical centre) because 'new city' is nothing! incl. Si Satchanalai with motor scooter rental (+/- 65 km) : 2 to 3 nights
This way you can also enjoy 'sunrise' and 'sunwet' panoramas!
Regards !
Does anyone have suggestions for 4 days Chang Mai?
– good hotel
activities ?
-elephant conservation center worth it?
address for a cooking course ?
Thanks in advance !
