Home » Reader question » Reader question: Booking a domestic flight to Chiang Mai, which is cheaper?
Dear readers,
Just a little question.
In July I will be in Thailand again and would like to visit some friends in Chiang Mai, departing from Bangkok. We would prefer to take a flight there and back 4 days later.
Currently I see the price as € 160 to book with Bangkok Airways at Connections.
Is this a good price or is it cheaper to book locally in Bangkok at the airport itself or in one of the many travel agencies?
Sincerely,
Frank
Try airport Don Muang from here depart the cheaper flights
Dear Frank

Hi Frank, have been flying with NOKair for a few years now, this is a Thai low-cost airline where you no longer have hidden costs. I don't know how much you fly with, but € 160 seems a lot, especially if it is pp. Paid last year at NOK 4900 baht for 2 round trips for last January. Can she book now for next January for 5200 baht. I would check that site if I were you.
Check out airasia.com or nokair. Ok think Bangkok airways is kind of expensive.
Book with the companies themselves then you don't have to pay filing cabinets.
hi frank,
just book at the airport and possibly keep an eye on the websites for offers. at the moment you often see offers on facebook from the airlines for 1200 bajt one way. the normal price is 2200 baht one way. that is still cheaper because 4400 baht return is 100 euros
goodbye
skippy
NOK AIR is good, both price and service. Departure of Don Muang.
Tip – especially the first and last flights of the day are very often the cheapest.
Doesn't have to be a disadvantage (depart early and return by midnight) because on the way there / back to the airport it is a lot quieter on the road in Bangkok
Booked a return direct with the Bangkok air website last week.
Cost incl. tax etc. 3580 Baht.
May depend on the period in which you want to fly, my ticket is for April 8. and the accessibility of the airport, DMK was inconvenient for me.
greetings, yup
Have a look at Thai Lion Air…
Flights from around 1000 baht pp all in for a one-way ticket.
With Thai lion air you can, if you book in time, for THB 820 pp one way http://www.lionairthai.com/en
Can be even cheaper – 670 Baht in July with Lion Air 🙂
We always fly with Air Asia and are very satisfied. Final rate always depends on your luggage! I always book about six months or in advance (best prices) directly with the company via the internet!
Just for the sake of completeness because the question was what is more advantageous;
So Lion Air, via credit card on the website, direct debit via Thai Bank or by paypoint, where you (after booking on the website) must pay for the ticket at a location within 3 hours (eg Big C, 7/11 etc)
Local travel agencies will all do something on the net ticket price…
I use exclusively http://www.skyscanner.nl for looking for the cheapest flights now that I have been staying in Thailand for a while. My experience is that Nokair and Airasia generally have nice (read: low) rates. Bangkok Airways or Thai Airways are always more expensive in my opinion. That is possible with better service, but how much service do you want on a flight of about 1 hour? Oh yes, I also very often only book a few days before departure. Good luck
Air Asia often has promotions.
I myself booked a return trip via the website on March 7, back April 20.
The total cost for this round trip 1822 baht.
Note I am only allowed to take 7 kilos of hand luggage, but for a small additional charge you can take more luggage.
My opinion is to keep an eye on offers and book yourself via the website.
Frank enjoy your stay in Chiangmai
If you can book long enough in advance, the low-cost airlines are
Indeed the cheapest, if you want to book a la minute you can perfectly on the
Airport with thai airways, the advantage is that you don't have to leave the airport
Change and the price at thai airways is cheaper the shorter before departure you book
Perfectly possible an hour before departure, they also have several flights per day
Everything better than booking in Europe
The cheapest is in the airport itself; bangkok airways or asia lines. in short, go through them all yourself and I believe… that there is still a room somewhere with even cheaper tickets; i paid 50€ to come back from chang mai to bkk.. greetings
Well Rik, that doesn't seem like the cheapest option to me, paying €50 for just a return flight from Chiang Mai to Bangkok. I have a return Chiang Rai – Bangkok for a little more last year / and next year. Just for fun, I searched the Lionair site on a random date in June 9th and there you can get a return ticket from Bangkok to Chiang Mai for less than 1700 baht, which also seems cheaper than your one-way ticket. 1 Tip for Frank Never go to a travel agency in Pattaya/Bangkok or elsewhere, a few years ago they wanted to sell me 2 tickets to Chiang Rai (from Bkk) for 6000 Baht each way. There was no other option. Visited the internet shop 100 meters away and bought 4 return tickets for 2 each 3000 days before departure.
Dear Frank,
My experience is to fly with Air asia or Nok-air, just easy to book at home via their website.
You can then determine the most favorable time or price yourself.
Unfortunately, these companies depart from Don Muang [an hour from Suvarnabhumi]
Please note the weight of your luggage when booking, you are allowed to transport 15 kilos per person per domestic flight.
Good luck and safe journey,
Ralph
