Dear readers,

I live in the Netherlands but would like to open a bank account because of the holidays here in Thailand, I have a condo in Thailand but no yellow household book (yet).

Which banks would be eligible and at which of them can you easily do internet banking?

Regards,

French

Frans, I have had good experiences with Kasikorn Bank, also regarding internet banking. To open my accounts I only needed my passport and the rental contract of my house, but that differs per bank and even per branch.

My experience with Kasikorn for bank card account opening is that they required a passport with long stay visa and my international driver's license (not a yellow housekeeping book).

I have very good experiences with the Bangkok bank.

You can forget that easy internet banking with Kasikorn, unless you have a Thai mobile phone number to receive the 2nd security code, and then they still ask for proof of residence (may also be an electricity bill or something like that.. ° It works not with a foreign GSM number..

Hi Freddy, indeed, I also get that idea with the Kasikorn account that my wife has, with her the Kasikorn app is linked to her phone (and to her Dutch telephone number) and she bought a new phone in the Netherlands at some point, so that if she wanted internet banking with Kasikorn she had to put her SIM card back into her old phone every time, so it was very difficult.
I do have a Thai SIM card myself, on which I regularly put some money so that it does not expire (I am only in Thailand a few weeks a year)

    Dear French,
it is not so easy to open a bank account in Thailand if you do not have a NON-O visa or permanent address, so you do not live permanently in Thailand. Of course, and that is the case with many things in Thailand, it will depend on the banking institution itself or, who you know…. You will certainly need a 'guarantor' and the most suitable and accepted people are those who work for a state institution.
As far as I know, the most 'smooth' bank in this case is the Bangkok bank.
Internet banking is now possible at almost all banks and works fine.

      Dear Lung Addy,
      Just my story;
I went to the BangkoK Bank together with Chaantje. Passport included, which had a monthly stamp, so just a tourist stay for 1 month, which had already been extended for another 30 days.
I gave her address and within 15 minutes I had a bank account, only and could do internet banking.
      Handled very quickly and helpfully.

        Dear Pear,

in fact you are now repeating what I myself wrote:
“It is, and always is in Thailand, depending on the banking institution itself…. I even indicated that Bangkok Bank is the most lenient in these matters.
And regarding Chaantje, who went with you:
she must have been the 'guarantor', but you may not even know that, since I can assume that you yourself have not understood anything of what was said or asked there..

this was probably a long time ago, I just opened an account with Bangkok myself.
but now visa and many other things is needed
        at any Thai bank.
        good luck with the opening

I would definitely NOT open an account with the Kasikorn bank. About 300 Million baht has been stolen from Thai and farrang by them recently. Don't take any chances. Follow the information in the media.

I opened an account with Bangkok Bank in January 2020, I only needed my passport, which included a 90-day visa (Non-Immigrant-O), and the rental agreement where I stayed for 3 months.

To open the account, I then had to take out a 1-year health insurance policy that would reimburse my hospital costs in an emergency, up to an amount of 100.000 bath.

Was helped enormously with that, put the internet banking app on my mobile, gave me access to it (6-digit pin code) and it works excellently, have div. transferred money (euros) from NL several times, when the exchange rate was favorable through Wise, and a short time later I saw that it had been credited to my Thai account at Bangkok Bank.

    Good luck!

I have good experiences with Kasikorn or Bangkok bank

    Hello French,

I have an account with Kasikorn and Bangkok Bank. Kasikorn is my favorite because of the better and faster mobile app. The one from Bangkok Bank is very slow.

In addition to your passport, you also need a permanent address to open an account. So first make a yellow booklet of your condo at the municipality.

It also helps if you bring a Thai resident who acts as a guarantor or if you indicate that you want to use the bank account to deposit 800.000 baht for a visa extension. And if you still have a tourist visa, you will still have to go through the procedure of conversion to Non O at immigration.

    Success with it!

Dear Frans, I was very well served at bualang bank. bangkok bank. Very good for farangs.
    Hope this helped.
    Best regards

I advise you to take the TMB bank. I've had that for years

You do not need that yellow booklet if you bring your chanot (proof of ownership) of your home, that is sufficient.

Everything is arranged within an hour and you get a TMB card, where you can withdraw money anywhere in Thailand.
    IN THE NETHERLANDS TOO!!

With every recording you will receive a message on your phone with the overview.

    Good luck!!

    Greetings Rob
