Dear Dutch people in Thailand,

My name is Willem, 62 years old and I will be coming to Thailand in mid-January and staying in Bangkok for about three weeks. I will probably stay in hotel Miami. Other suggestions are welcome. I have been to Bangkok several times.

I would like to get in touch with someone who lives in Bangkok to talk about life there, because my wish is to emigrate to Thailand when I retire.

Yours faithfully,

William from Amersfoort

    Why retire in Bangkok?

    1. Dirty air will take years off your life.
    2. Fairly expensive.
    3. Way too crowded (people, traffic, etc)
    4.

There have been a number of reviews and questions asked on this forum on this topic.
    Renting or buying a house
Pataya or Hua Hin, Chaam, Phuket, Chiang Mai, ete etc
A quick search here will yield a lot of info.

dear willem, why not go to khon kaen? go there yourself to emigrate. what rori says is correct. there are more and more people, including thai residents, who are heading for the isaan. I also think it is a lot safer and more pleasant than in bangkok. there is more than just bangkok. look beyond your nose and enrich yourself. have fun in the other thailand, but that's your own choice.

The other side is, why go to Khon Kaen?

There is not that much to do in Khon Kaen. It's an ordinary Thai city, little bit of nightlife. It is true that almost everything in terms of facilities is available. But after 1 or 2 years in Khon Kaen there is little new to experience in that city.

I ended up there by chance, but living in Bangkok for a few years has also crossed my mind.

Furthermore, it also very much depends on how you are. If you are a bit more on your own then Khon Kaen also has plenty of places to go. But you will see here that a large part of the farang community is located around the Pullman hotel and a large part really only knows the streets around Pullman, the rest of the city they have never been there.
