I just heard (morning December 11) at NPO 1 at WNL, that as of March 31, 2021, the countries of Australia and Thailand, among others, will open their borders to tourists, provided they are vaccinated against Covid-19. This seems like great news, also for the undersigned.

Coincidentally, I have sent the following message to the RIVM and the National Government NL:

“Dear Sir/Madam, in order not to fall behind the facts again, which unfortunately is constantly the case with virus control (lock down and curfew should have taken place right at the beginning and in a European context), and now threatens again with the preparations for the approaching vaccinations (which is far too lax), it would be advisable to also send an English-language vaccination statement to everyone who will be vaccinated soon. So that not later, this still has to happen. Because it is quite possible that other countries and/or companies (see plan Quantas) will also demand this. Personally, I have experienced a lot of trouble because health insurers only want to issue insufficient English-language insurance statements.
I hope that this message actually brings someone to the attention of decision-makers. With thanks and best regards,”

I then received confirmation that it had been forwarded to the Ministry.

It might be useful that more people send such a message to our governments so that we don't have to beg again for an English statement.

Do not cheer to early. They say so much with a program like WNL. I can't find anything about it in the English-language Thai media (yet).

      • True what you say. A rumor that was helped into the world by the Telegraaf. Can't find anything about it at TAT-news or Bangkok Post.

    Don't celebrate too early.

A race is only won after crossing the finish line.. just to use a metaphor.
Even if you have received your vaccination, you can still get a Covid infection and be contagious to others.. you hope to eventually become less ill yourself.. That is why I expect that the quarantine measures will not just be thrown overboard, at most brought back to 10 days..

Logistically, it will take a few years before the entire world population is vaccinated and covid is pushed back. Then normal life resumes.

    • Even if you have received your vaccination, you can still get a Covid infection and be contagious to others. That's not a fact. Has yet to be proven in practice.

En trouwens die Quarantaine Hotels doen goede zaken hoor hier, op Thailand blog zie dat de meeste mensen zeggen dat ze vol zitten dus tel uit je winst.
They don't easily let this cash cow go, they now earn more than before without corona time.

Tourists were recently allowed to travel to Thailand with a visa, you also have family members who like to spend their quarantine stay for these holidays because of the upcoming holidays and you now have the option to go to Thailand as a pensioner. These 3 groups will temporarily cause a higher demand for rooms in December. In addition to the aforementioned holidays, the arrival of winter in Europe and the holiday period around the holidays also play a role, which means that more people can and want to travel to Thailand during this period. Now months ago there was already talk of the cheaper hotels being full because yes money goes for comfort for many when choosing a quarantine hotel. In December this will result in a higher occupancy of the quarantine hotels is my view, but you will only know for sure if you have informed at least 30 of the 120 available hotels and not the cheapest ones which, as said, are already fully booked first . You can't go by what a few people say about hotels being full, because it's hard for them to know the occupancy rate of all rooms in the hotel.

      • I think it would be better to look at the OMT through a somewhat critical lens.

Medical microbiologist Jan Kluytmans earns from corona tests. As a member of the Outbreak Management Team (OMT), he simultaneously advises on testing policy and on the use of rapid tests, a source of income for his laboratory and himself. But he did not report that financial interest. The Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport does not deny the existence of a conflict of interest, but does not see a problem. This is not the first incident involving a conflict of interest in the OMT: the double cap of colleague Ann Vossen has already come into the picture.

Can I say that I absolutely do not believe that Thailand will open its borders to vaccinees in a few months?

It won't be that easy and anyone who knows Thailand knows that it will go in a completely different way than you might think now.
Firstly, you will need a digital medical passport in which the vaccination is registered.
Subsequently, Thailand will probably designate a vaccine that is allowed and other vaccines will not allow you to enter the country. And lastly, Thailand wouldn't be Thailand if there isn't a revenue model for them.
That could mean vaccinating on arrival at no small cost and later the second vaccination in a Thai hospital and checkout again.

The borders will not open until the Thai population is vaccinated. The vaccination protects the person who has been vaccinated. It is therefore really not enough that the tourist is vaccinated. It will be one and the same: both the tourist and the Thai must have immunity.
At best, this means that there will be a real relaxation in the autumn. In the best case: sufficient vaccines must be produced, distribution and application for millions must be realized, it must be shown that they provide long-term protection and that no side effects occur.
I assume that I will not be able to go back until spring 2022.

    • keespattaya says up

If the borders only open after the Thai population has been vaccinated, it could take a long time. Why should a Thai get vaccinated for a disease that has only affected a single Thai.

  7. willem says up

The borders are already largely open. All visa types are allowed again. Also the new STV. The visa exemption that was previously 30 days has been increased to 45 days. All that remains is the quarantine. In other words, anyone can come now.

  8. John Chiang Rai says up

After the umpteenth message that Thailand will open its borders to tourists again, I will first believe it if it actually takes place.
Before that happens, a few problems already come to my mind, which for many can still make a thick line through their supposed travel plans.
The first problem is, even if you have been vaccinated, you are still contagious to those Thai people who have had a vaccine with an existing infection.
And the 2nd problem is the question, who really thinks that he has already been vaccinated before March 31, 2021?
In most European countries, they are starting to vaccinate certain groups first, so that given the group that can actually pose as a tourist in terms of age and health, it may take a while.
With luck, I see the borders for the majority of tourists, without having to go into mandatory quarantine, opening again at the earliest in July/August.
All those who are against a vaccination duty will see that this duty will take place through the back door.
Not vaccinated will mean staying at home for most, because many airlines, public entertainment and countries will make this a requirement for admission.

Most categories are already there. Don't wait any longer.

Thailand has not given it much attention in the media.

But in my ASQ there are several with a Tourist Visa (TV) and I with a Non O retirement.

Anyone can get a TV without special conditions.

      • John Chiang Rai says up

Dear Willem, Under the opening of the borders, the above article assumes that everyone enters the country without a mandatory quarantine.
Those who, for one reason or another, think it is already worth undergoing a quarantine after completing the visa procedure, is at most a drop in the ocean for Thai tourism.
Furthermore, your last sentence, that everyone can get a TV without special conditions, is also far from the truth.

        • willem says up

Beats. But still I read complaining messages from people who say they can't come back now. It's possible!! Thats my message.

        • willem says up

Now everyone can get a TV. The rules have really changed recently. oa No more financial requirements.

        • willem says up

Dear John. These are the requirements for a single entry TV. Valid for 60 days and can be extended once for an additional 1 days.

          TOURIST VISA

This type of visa is issued to applicants who wish to enter Thailand for tourism purposes or for medical treatment (less than 60 days).

          1. REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

          Single-Entry Tourist Visa
Passport or travel document with validity not less than 6 months
Visa application form completely filled out
Recent passport-sized photograph (3.5 x 4.5 cm) of the applicant taken within the past 6 months
Bank statement showing adequate funds for your stay in Thailand
Health insurance covering medical expenses in Thailand including a minimum coverage of 100,000 USD for COVID-19 (must be specifically mentioned)
A letter from a doctor/hospital in Thailand (for purpose of Medical Treatment in Thailand)

So.. Why wouldn't someone comply with this?

Toch lastig om heel veel te zeggen over iets waarover nauwelijks iets bekend is. De vaccinatie is nog nauwelijks begonnen maar er is al heel veel over te lezen. meestal gewoon speculatie. Gewoon wachten totdat er echt stevige informatie over bekend is lijkt me beter. Meeste mededelingen/ meningen zijn gewoon luchtfietserij

Goed idee Harald om zoveel mogelijk mailtjes te sturen.
“the youth “is having such a hard time, but people whose loved ones live abroad are not thought of
I also want to be vaccinated and proof of this because there will soon be more airlines that will require it and also countries that will demand it
Not only because of this vaccination, but an important reason so that you can go back to Thailand if they make this a requirement.
Heb je mail adressen waar je ze heen gestuurd hebt zodat we ze allemaal naar dezelfde sturen en niet verspreid ergens wel of niet aankomen.

    Dear,
I'm glad to read this because I hadn't heard this before.
As soon as I get vaccinated I will ask for the English statement.
I also have a tip: Also have it stamped in your international vaccination card.

You should read the package leaflet of many common medicines (even a paracetamol tablet) that everyone in the Netherlands is prescribed by their GP or hospital. Practically every leaflet states that women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should FIRST consult their doctor whether they can use this medicine. You will not hear me say that I am in favor of vaccination, but to say that it is unsafe because it is not recommended for pregnant women is a bit short-sighted, because this message is included with practically all medicines.
However, it is your right to wait if you don't trust it.

    • Eric H says up

don't you watch TV, don't you follow the news and talk programs?
Medicijnen worden niet zomaar goed gekeurd.
The suppliers must provide proof that it works and that they are tested and safe.'
Besides, ANY drug can have side effects, even the most harmless ones.
      Never read any closers?
I'm getting a little tired of those people who only shout "no syringe in my body" but they do want to get rid of the corona rules, now there will be an approved medicine and if there are enough people who have been vaccinated then hopefully we will be able to this pandemic.

As far as I'm concerned, those who have already had a corona infection can immediately go abroad without quarantine and therefore also to Thailand. Of the millions of infections, only a handful of people have been affected for a second time, so that is super exceptional and then almost everyone of this handful had no serious symptoms. From the SARS infection from 2 and 2002, antibodies are still found in the people infected at the time, after 2003 years. For this new coronavirus Covid-17, it is known that it already provides protection for 19 days if you are infected, while the virus has not been actively spreading much longer (since March in the Netherlands). Who knows it might protect for years, if not like the old SARS virus from 200, maybe even longer than 2002 years. The RIVM reported last week that 17 million inhabitants of the Netherlands have already had the virus and I think they have the same status as those already vaccinated. Why emphasize vaccinations and not also those who have already had the virus.

See the link from RIVM regarding 200 days:

Thailand will receive 25 million doses from the company Astra Zeneca between Jan-Jul next year. That is good enough to vaccinate 12,5 million people. Thailand has also obtained the right to produce this vaccine itself, so that it becomes available to everyone.
The Ministry of Health expects that tourist visits without quarantine will only be possible from the third quarter of 2021.

Never mind that clammy damp and rain from April, no thanks.
And in addition, what will everything be like then, don't think back to the old, and a mouth cap is mandatory everywhere with those temperatures doesn't seem like a party either.
I would like to hear the experiences (without rose-colored glasses) of the people who come back in April / May.
And probably only in 2022 somewhere I will return to the east…
