Because I decided to stay in Thailand this year, my blood thinners ran out. I use Xarelto aka Rivaroxaban 15mg.

As a fan of the Bangkok Pattaya Hospital, I went to the Cardiologist who did the usual examinations. I also ordered 60 tablets of Xarelto. I had to pay 16.000 baht for that!

Two months later I went to the Pattaya International Hospital where the price for 60 pieces was 13.800.

Now we are with mothers and I went to Suranaree University Hospital in Korat. For 60 pieces 7.200!

Although my Dutch health insurance company DSW pays all my claims properly, I still want to avoid unnecessary high costs.

You mentioned the differences yourself. If you go to a government hospital, the one that most foreigners feel too good for, you will pay even less, most drugstores will also be able to order them for you

Completely agree with you despite the ′′ applicable ′′ control by the government. Overnight stay
in Bangkok Hospital in Chiang Mai THB 2750, in Bangkok THB 15.000, in Bumrungrad
Hospital in Bangkok THB 3750. Especially the Bangkok Hospital – anywhere – knows
of arithmetic and has discovered the Farang ATMs, especially since the beginning of this year after their introduction”
of the “control” on the prices of private hospitals.

Bangkok hospital in CM on the super highway for 2750, I read on their website a few weeks ago around 8000 THB for a day.
If you leave too late, you will be charged an additional amount.

Suranaree University Hospital is a government hospital affiliated with the university of the same name, located 10 km west of Korat. Model hospital with the appearance of a private hospital, I think, only a lot cheaper. I also used the prevention center there where you can have yourself examined cheaply.

In principle, I always go to the military hospital first in Uttaradit. This is best furnished here and freely accessible

The eye drops that I received from my ophthalmologist cost 1200 baht. At the pharmacy they cost 800. Not such an extreme price difference as Jan describes, but still worth shopping. I will look at other pharmacies next time. Maybe I find them even cheaper (or rather: less expensive).

Let a Thai inquire and order at a local pharmacy

Pills for high blood pressure at the doctor 500 baht 100 pieces at the pharmacist 100 / 200 Baht Price yourself rich.

Korat has many private pharmacies. Recognizable by a large green cross. Go in, don't be alarmed by the chaos, show old packaging, and buy what you need (or have it ordered.) You will see that you pay considerably less than in a hospital pharmacy. Prescriptions not necessary, but if it's more enjoyable ask your doctor for a piece of paper and a scribble. I have never seen a formal recipe booklet with Thai doctors / specialists.

I had a cardiac bypass operation in 2002 and have been using the blood thinner ASPENT-M asperin 13 mg for the 81 years that I have been living in Chiang Mai and this costs from the pharmacy TB-80 100 pcs. You can buy these everywhere and they are called in the popularly known as children's aspirin But if you tell the hospital that you are insured then it's bingo.

Dear Jan, after reading all this I have one more question for you.
Are you still a fan of Bangkok Pataya Hospital.
As long as I live here in the north of Thailand and after a few operations, all those so-called private hospitals can gradually be stolen from me.
Yes I don't go there anymore, I have good experience with goverments hospitals.
No nagging first when you come in about insurance and credit cards, I'm sick and need help, that's what I'm here for.
What's their money's worth to get as much money out of you as possible.
Extra research here and research there, we keep the mill running, but yes if you like luxury and comfort and don't look at a few cents then it is definitely the place to be.

    Jan Beute.

And that's exactly how it is Jan!
A bacterial infection was resolved expertly in my case, which went well.
But all the extra unnecessary research brought the total bill to 17000 euros.
